Radiation Protection Specialist I - Instrumentation Program Manager Job ID 6217 Location SLAC - Menlo Park, CA Full-Time Regular **SLAC Job Postings** **Position overview:** SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory (SLAC), Environmental, Safety & Health (ESH) Division is seeking a highly motivated Health & Safety Specialist to join our Radiation Protection team and to support our Instrumentation program. Members of this team are responsible for the development, implementation and/or management of various safety radiation safety programs. In this position, you will be responsible for the Instrumentation Program as well as other assigned areas and projects. This position reports to the DREP Group Leader. **Your specific responsibilities include:** + Oversee the calibration of portable radiation protection instruments by one or more science and engineering or health physics technician(s). + Plan and direct the calibration of fixed instruments such as beam shut-off ionization chambers (BSOICs), portable radiation monitoring stations, and beamline residual dose monitors. + Under general supervision, perform basic technical work in a wide range of environmental, health, and safety disciplines, with emphasis on Health Physics. + Plan and monitor instrumentation calibration budget. + Maintain assigned policies and procedures. + Perform testing and analysis of new equipment. + Identify, assess and monitor workplace hazards, including but not limited to physical and radiological. Recommend improvements to minimize hazard potential. + Conduct investigations by compiling and analyzing data of potential hazards, unsafe conditions or environmental concerns.
