Summary
The radiation safety officer will be responsible for ensuring and maintaining all regulations and licenses for several facilities. They will be responsible for ensuring the safety of our employees, customers, and communities by managing and implementing radiation safety programs and policies.
Responsibilities
• Ensures facilities complies with all regulations, licenses, and other requirements.
• Identify issues with radiation protection, recommend, and implement corrective actions.
• Manages the radiation safety training program to ensure that only authorized, qualified individuals work with radiation; manages the personnel dosimetry program to limit radiation exposure to radiation users and ensure compliance with policies and regulatory exposure limits.
• Investigate any incidents or situations that could lead to exposure, and find solutions to prevent similar incidents in the future.
• Continually review and update facilities radiation safety program policies.
• Conduct regular safety training and program audits to identity and fix problem areas.
• Maintain record of radiation measurements and other relevant information.
• Leads the Radiation Safety Committee.
• Oversees the use of radioactive materials at facilities through the management of radioactive materials licensing, radiation laboratory survey, and radioactive waste management programs.Review and approve requests for radiation permits.
• Respond to radiation safety emergencies and prepares and submits required reporting
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned including serving as a system resource for all other RSOs
Requirements, Preferences and Experience
Education:
• Minimum: Bachelor degree in health or medical physics, nuclear engineering or other appropriate science-related field of study.
• Preferred:Masters degree in health or medical physics, nuclear engineering or other appropriate science-related field of study.
Experience:
• Minimum:3 years experience as Radiation Safety Officer or Assistant Radiation Safety Office.
• Preferred:5 years experience as Radiation Safety Office or Assistant Radiation Safety Officer.
License/Certifications:
• Minimum:American Board Health Physics Certification
