Radiation Therapist

As a part of a Regional Cancer Program, the Radiation Therapy / Treatment Planning Department of the Juravinski Cancer Centre is an expanding program that provides state-of-the-art planning, simulation and treatment for both external beam radiation and brachytherapy as well as comprehensive support for Radiation Therapy patients. The department includes a School of Radiation Therapy with Clinical Coordinators, and a treatment and administrative staff that include Radiation Therapists, Treatment Planners, Nurses, Mould Room Technicians, Clerks, Secretaries and Health Care Aides.

Currently, there are 3 CT Simulators, 1 MRI Simulator, state-of-the-art treatment planning system, 10 Varian Linear Accelerators, one Ortho-Voltage machine, an HDR Brachytherapy suite, and a CyberKnife unit.

The duties and responsibilities of the Radiation Therapist includes; assessing and educating patients, planning and administering radiation treatment, documenting prescriptions and related patient treatment information. The Radiation Therapist will take active participation in undergraduate student education, quality assurance programs, research and continuing education and will be required to perform other related duties and activities as assigned.

1. Current Radiation Therapist registration with the CMRTO required
2. Current OAMRT and CAMRT membership preferred
3. Current BCLS certification with ongoing re-certification mandatory
4. Minimum 3 years recent and relevant Radiation Therapist experience
5. MRI Certification is preferred
6. IV Insertion Certification is considered an asset
7. Volunteer participation in recent and relevant Radiation Therapy working groups and/or committees.
8. Demonstrated ongoing commitment to professional development.
9. Excellent technical, communication, patient assessment, and critical analysis skills
10. Excellent interpersonal skills.
11. Demonstrated adaptability, flexibility, compassion, initiative when dealing with patients/families
12. Strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize workload
13. Knowledge of computer systems and general office software
