Job Description
MAIN FUNCTION:
This position delivers professional radiation therapy services, including executing daily radiation therapy treatments, scheduling patients, assisting with simulation of patients, maintaining accurate patient treatment records and participating in the quality assurance/quality control activities of the department. The Radiation Therapist works in collaboration with the oncology services team of the Falck Cancer Center (FCC) to assure that the delivery of patient care is consistent with the Arnot Ogden and FCC policies and procedures. This position reports to the Radiation Oncology Manager.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
**A. Direct Patient Care
+ Provides radiation therapy treatment delivery services to cure or improve the quality of life of patients by accurately delivering a prescribed course of treatment.
+ Implements and delivers a planned course of external beam, SBRT/VMAT and conventional treatments.
+ Administers treatment accurately and safely; monitors and reports unexpected effects, reactions, therapeutic responses and incompatibilities.
+ Participates effectively in a therapeutic team approach to provide optimum radiation therapy treatments.
+ Evaluates and assess daily, the physiologic and psychological responsiveness of each
+ Documents details of treatment procedures accurately, billing codes and maintain daily treatment records updating as often as required.
+ Constructs and/or prepares and utilizes immobilization devices, beam directional devices and the like which facilitates treatment delivery.
+ Provides patient education in order to maximize patient understanding with the plan of care and provide family education as needed.
+ Provides age-appropriate care to adult and geriatric patients.
B. Program
1. Assists patient/families in gaining access to appropriate Arnot Ogden, FCC and community services.
**2. Collaborates with FCC and Arnot Ogden oncology services team, including physicians, nurses, nutritionist, social workers and other professional staff, in delivering high quality patient care.
3. Makes referrals to physicians, Cancer Care Team, nurses, community health agencies or other professional staff as needed.
4. Participates in the quality assurance activities of the department.
**5. Performs quality control functions for the department, including appropriate measurement, documentation and reporting of findings.
6. Detects and reports equipment malfunction.
7. Under the direction of the supervisor, assists with clinical instruction of radiation therapy students.
**8. Assists in physics QC/QA when directed.
C. Education and Other
**1. Provides in-service educational opportunities for Arnot Ogden and FCC staff, primary physician staff and other home health and community agency staff as requested.
2. Assumes responsibility for continuing education relevant to personal and professional learning needs.
+ Demonstrates professional image, attitude and behaviors consistent with the philosophy of the Arnot Ogden the FCC as well as the radiation therapy profession.
+ Responsible for attending all annual mandatory educational programs as required by position.

EDUCATION:
Graduate of an accredited radiation therapy program or equivalent required. Certification by the A.R.R.T. required. Current New York State Licensed Radiation Therapist RT(T) required.
EXPERIENCE:
One year experience as a licensed therapist preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position requires frequent standing and walking.
Reaching and stooping.
Required to be on feet much or the time.
Requires light, moderate, or considerable physical effort.
Ability to frequently lift 25 lbs, and occasionally lift 50 lbs .
EXPOSURE CATEGORY:
Category I. Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues.
