Major Responsibilities:
Determination of appropriate radiological technique and position for patient using immobilization and support devices. Operates radiology equipment appropriately.
Positions patient, adjusts equipment, secures and immobilizes support devices as needed to tactfully perform procedures.
Determines appropriate radiographic technique based on anatomy and patients condition to obtain quality films for the radiologists.
Secures history from patient regarding reason for prescribed test.
Adherence to all accepted safety standards and practices to ensure patient safety and quality patient care.
Assures accuracy of examination performed and requisition.
Familiar with MSDS information pertaining to chemicals used in the department.
Performs clerical duties such as maintaining adequate patient records, daily statistics, answering telephones, scheduling examinations and giving instructions to patients for examination to provide smooth and continuous department services.
Communicates with patient appropriately and provides excellent care.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Uses universal precautions in daily performance of procedures.
Maintains compliance with established safety standards to protect patients and staff at all time (i.e., appropriate patient shielding, etc.)
Maintains exposure badge.
Maintains supplies and cleanliness for assigned room on a daily basis.
Administers CPR as necessary.
Coordination of quality control tasks.
Prepares contrast media as necessary following department standards and manufacturers recommendations.
Performs daily sensitometry of processors; assists in performance of annual inspections.
Checks film quality and ensures proper and correct labeling is provided.
Performs quality control activities, responds to inquires, coordinates patient flow and communicates with provider to ensure exams are completed in a timely fashion.
Prepares radiology rooms daily.
Coordinates the flow of patients into and out of the department in accordance with established departmental/center procedures.
Performs orders management tracking functions.
Inventories supplies and maintains adequate stock.
Labels radiology images according to department standards and criteria.
Education/Experience Required:
IDNS license. Graduate from an accredited AMA School of Radiology
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
Knowledge of Health Information System. Basic knowledge of radiology equipment.
CPR certification Licensed by IDNS. American Registry of Radiologic Technologists registered (ARRT)
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Able to make independent professional decisions pertaining to high quality patient care. High degree of technical skills Must be able to function with minimal assistance in performing job activities. Ability to deal with extremely ill patients. Ability to lift and/or move patients. Ability to work under stressful conditions, in difficult situations. May be exposed to hazardous materials and life-threatening diseases. Ability to work during site hours of operation.
If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Addendum: Advocate Medical Group-Leroy: Radiology Tech also performs all lab assistant duties and is trained by Federal Standards in Urine Drug and Breath Alcohol Testing.
