Summary:
Under general supervision of Diagnostic Imaging Manager and in accordance with established policies and procedures performs a variety of functions to assist in the daily operation of the Diagnostic Imaging division such as transportation of patients requiring radiographic procedures preparing patient and room for examinations preparing exposed radiographic images assisting in maintaining inventory of supplies and cleanliness of work area pick-up and delivery of supplies for department assisting the radiographer in portable radiographic procedures performing related duties such as completing forms logging in data into computer terminal. All essential functions performed reflect the age-specific needs of the adult and geriatric patient and adapt their care to physical psychosocial and cultural needs.
Responsibilities:
Consistently meets the following job accountabilities: critical thinking interpersonal skills team membership customer focus initiative and reliability.
Assists radiographer with portable radiographic procedures. Assists with patients as needed. Prepares patient for radiographic procedure. Lifts and positions patient for radiographic procedure. Follows procedures to ensure correct patient identification.
Provides various messenger and radiology patient/equipment transport services as needed. Secures appropriate transport equipment such as stretcher or wheelchair and necessary additional equipment such as IV pole oxygen tank linen or blanket. Cleans and prepares stretcher before and after use.
Prepares room for radiographic procedure.
Fosters patient and family centered care and laboratory services in accordance with the Brown University Health and The Miriam Hospital�s mission vision values with consideration of the life span including all developmental stages as well as cultural patterns. Performs all essential functions with consideration of the age-specific needs of the geriatric adult and adolescent patient.
Maintains quality assurance safety environmental and infection control in accordance with established hospital department policies procedures and objectives.
Performs other related duties as required.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Equivalent to high school diploma.
Ability to interact effectively with patients visitors and hospital staff of all levels.
Ability to read and write English and to perform basic arithmetic computations to verify shipments complete charge information on Radiology requisitions and perform stock reconciliation.
Interpersonal and language skills to exchange information with other hospital personnel patients visitors and vendors.
Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of three months� experience preferably in a patient-care setting.
Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
Healthcare environment such as acute care hospitals physicians� offices and ancillary healthcare enterprises.
Works with medical and office equipment; has direct patient contact.
Any potential hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions including use safety equipment and protective clothing.
