Position Summary:
The radiology patient access rep performs a wide variety of detail oriented duties in the process of arriving and registering patients in the radiology dept. May be called upon to schedule patient appointments.

Responsibilities:
Prints face sheets, reviews orders, and provides updates to demographic and insurance information if necessary. Calls appropriate personnel to review discrepancies and obtain correct information prior to examination. Obtains all necessary patient consent for treatment. Coordinates with Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital Scheduling Department and Alliance Imaging Central Scheduling all inpatient and outpatient MRI examinations including emergency add-on’s. Receives and reviews all necessary documentation including MRI orders. Alert MRI site Manager or MRI Technologist to any changes in schedule Knowledgeable to identify, pre-screen and assist in preparing patients for MRI examinations in support of the MRI technologist. Answers or refers any questions or concerns to appropriate personnel. Collects and documents all pertinent medical information including contra-indications and/or prior history relative to the examination ordered in support of the MRI technologist. Extensively uses Meditech computer applications pertaining to patient radiology numbers and bar coding functions. Print pertinent prior radiology reports for radiologist and clinical staff upon request. Obtains any other necessary information for radiologist as requested. Initiates x-ray requisitions according to protocol. Prepares x-ray forms in advance for scheduled inpatient or outpatients in all imaging modalities. Answers all incoming telephone calls and transfer to appropriate area as needed. Does so in a timely manner. Able to triage information and communicate to the appropriate areas. Updates patients and families on estimated wait times in the Department. Remains visible and proactive in meeting patient’s needs. Involves are supervisors to meet the patients needs as deemed necessary. Accepts patients into the Radiology department and assesses their condition to determine proper handling and special requirements as identified. Uses clinical resources when assistance is needed. Performs a variety of duties to assist in the care and treatment of patients of all ages, newborn through geriatric. Sorts and delivers all incoming mail. Retrieve faxes continually throughout the scheduled shift and distributes in a timely manner. Retrieves films from off-site storage as required. Pulls all films needed for the Radiologist and submitted lists. Retrieves films for conferences and meeting rounds. Maintains accurate records to show location and person responsible for films. Produce CD of patient images using PACs Cube or Amicas and prepares for release to patients, physicians and outside facilities. Understands and follows policy regarding release of images. Uses Meditech Film locater and uses proper identification methods. Coordinates work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency during assigned shift. Contributes to other areas in the department and hospital when called upon to do so. Shows ability to recognize and deal with priorities in a changing environment. Able to multi task to meet the duties of the position. Performs other duties as required or assigned

Education/Experience/Licenses/Technical/Other:
Education: High School diploma or equivalent required Experience: 1 year experience in medical or customer service working environment, radiology experience preferred. Certification/Licensure: N/A Software/Hardware: Nextbar, Evicore and Meditech experience preferred. Other: Medical Terminology
