Radiology Supervisor

GENERAL DUTIES

Acts as the principle aid to radiology leadership in planning, organizing and coordinating department standards and daily activities. Provides input for Policy and Procedure development, helps to implement new policy and procedures and insures compliance to accreditation, hospital and department rules and regulations as well as other requirements to include but not limited to Safety standards. Gathers and compiles data from numerous sources for statistical reports and ensures accuracy and timely submissions of data. The incumbent assists radiology leadership in communicating policy changes to staff. Assures staff are updated on new methods and new procedures.. The incumbent performs duties of the radiology manager in his/her absence and assists in the hiring process, assures that new employees are orientated to department and maintains the competency of personnel. The incumbent provides technical coverage for any areas supervised.

Supervisory Duties
Provides direct supervision to staff as required assuring the efficient delivery of services. Incumbent assures that adequate staffing is available to provide quality, timely services. This individual maintains quality by providing feedback to technologists and makes sure work is distributed as expediently as possible. Incumbent assures that annual performance evaluations and competency reviews are completed timely on all employees. Provides technical coverage as needed to provide quality patient services. This individual must maintain adequate inventory of supplies in the areas of responsibility, order supplies as needed and maintain accurate records for budget and utilization of supplies. This individual must also schedule in service training for staff ensuring compliance to all safety standards and injection practices and monitor technical staff’s compliance to state licensure law. This individual also investigates internal and external problems affecting radiology and assists the leadership in problem solving and conflict resolution.

Equipment Maintenance Responsibilities

Performs equipment inspections and documents equipment downtime. As problems arise, troubleshoots equipment and initiates repairs to minimize downtime and disruption of services. This person assures that quality control and safety checks are performed as needed and documentation is maintained. This individual must interact with housekeeping, maintenance and other departments as needed to maintain a safe and clean environment for patients, employees and visitors.

Record Maintenance Responsibilities
Responsible for maintaining accurate attendance and statistical records. May also be called upon to gather, compile and quantitate statistics and other data as needed for performance improvement activities. Incumbent must attend monthly meetings and disseminate minutes of meetings to subordinates. Records of these activities must be maintained.

Other Duties
Provides counseling as needed and reports issues to the Radiology leadership. Assures that all billing functions for the areas are completed accurately, efficiently and timely. Provides clinical instruction on procedures and use of equipment to both technologists and student technologists is part of the on going duties of the manager of this area. Documentation of competency for staff is required. This individual must interact with hospital employees, patients and physicians to answer questions concerning services. Serves on hospital and department committees and participates in department safety and performance improvement activities. Transports patients as needed to maintain patient safety and efficiency of department.

EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

Required: 4 years of radiology/diagnostic imaging experience; previous experience in management.

EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS

Required: Associates Degree from an accredited institution or 2-year certification program (including training from United States Armed Forces)


LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

Required: Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (CPR, BLS) - American Heart AssociationRequired: Radiology Technician (ARRT) - Louisiana State Radiologic Technology Board Of Examiners (LSRTBE)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Adheres to LSU-HCSD, DHH, MCLNO and Department of Radiology rules and regulations. Maintains standards based on accreditation bodies such as JCAHO, CMS etc.Maintains State License, continuing education requirements commiserate with position. Maintains basic knowledge base in radiological science enabling incumbent to perform procedures in accordance with excepted standards.Must be flexible, working all assigned shifts as scheduled. Has the ability to work in a sometimes-stressful environment to include but not limited to surgery, the ED etc.Willingly accepts additional duties as needed to help department.
