**Job Description** Under general supervision of Radiology Administrator, supervises daily operations in breast imaging and advanced mammography examinations – (eg: Stereotactic Biopsy, Fine Needle Aspirations and Needle Localizations) in accordance with established policies and procedures. Develops operational, administrative and quality assurance procedures and standards; schedules technologist workflow. Reviews and updates all policy and procedure manuals in accordance with regulatory standards; performs quality assurance checks; conducts staff in-service. May perform mammograms and special procedures as required. Ensures proper operation of area equipment; maintains and contacts with vendors to ensure continuous operation of area equipment. Provides instruction to medical students and residents. **Qualifications** + Job requires a minimum level of knowledge ordinarily acquired through completion of an Associates Degree or equivalent NYS accredited / JRCERT approved training program in radiological technology. + Candidates/incumbents should possess two to three years of progressively more responsible experience as radiology lead technologist or junior supervisor as minimum criterion in order to gain seasoned familiarity with breast imaging procedures. Must be knowledgeable about most major models of radiological diagnostic equipment. Good analytical skills necessary in order to solve problems of moderate complexity, requiring specialized knowledge, but where supervisors are available for consultation. Standard methods, guidelines and procedures govern work performed, although incumbent may develop day-to-day procedures. + Licensure by New York State Department of Health as a Radiologic Technologist is mandatory. + ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technology) or like organization certification in mammography is preferred. + Basic computer skills including MS Word is required. + Interpersonal skills required for effective job performance: good written and and verbal communication skills mandatory; incumbent required to maintain state-of-the-art knowledge of field. Must interact effectively with various levels of hospital staff/external agencies; must effectively supervise staff. **Responsibilities** 1. Under the supervision of Radiology Administrator, supervises daily operations in breast imaging service in provision of all types of radiologic examinations in order to aid the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Develops operational procedures and quality assurance / quality control standards; monitors compliance with protocols by technical staff. Schedules examination workflow from patient areas. Supervises or performs calibration and maintenance of breast imaging equipment during daily operations. Supervises maintenance of supplies including drugs, equipment's and office supplies. Participates in planning and acquisition of major or specialized equipment purchases. Assists in coordination of regulatory audits by private or governmental agencies. 2. Under supervision, performs quality assurance function both for diagnostic testing and proper operation of area equipment in accordance with established clinical protocols. Performs quality assurance/QC testing on equipment's in accordance with MQSA guidelines. Supervises, coordinates or implements equipment repairs and preventive maintenance, in compliance with regulatory guidelines and manufacturers recommended standards. Contact the vendor and or the service engineer for maintenance and repair of equipment's. Reviews/updates procedural manuals in accordance with departmental protocols. 3. Supervises Lead X-Ray Technologists and Special Procedure Technologists and area staff: assigns work; checks work for accuracy and quality; provides input on work performance. Participates in decisions on hiring, termination or discipline of staff technologists. May investigate/resolve complaints regarding patient care. 4. Performs special procedures and diagnostic & screening exams as required. Operate and observe safety guidelines. Responds to patients needs during testing. Ensures sterilization of all reusable equipment. 5. Teaches new techniques and orients staff to operation of new equipment via in-service training sessions. Provides teaching and training, as required, to physicians, students, medical residents and other clinical staff. Provides orientation to new staff technologists. Participates in continuing education in order to maintain current knowledge of all breast imaging examination techniques. Attends and participates in clinical conferences. 6.
