Responsibilities
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:
Under the direction of a radiologist, performs radiographic procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Assumes responsibilities for specified radiographic procedures and/or may be assigned duties as an instructor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist Radiologist with all patient examinations: Knowledge of radiologist’s routines. Provide Radiologist with proper equipment and history to complete patient exams.Obtain radiographs of various body parts: Knowledge of patient positioning for all examsProper setting of x-ray generator for lowest radiation dose for exams. Places proper patient ID and right/left markers on al films. Assesses film for proper technique before turning in for Radiologist to read. Proper coding and charging for all procedures.Share with the other technologists all on call hours, weekends and holidays; trading on call hours on occasion to accommodate co-workers.Proper knowledge of how and when contrast material will be used: Asks appropriate questions pertinent to contrast material being used. Relays all contrast information to Radiologist prior to injection of contrast material. Knowledge of drug reaction to contrast agent. Knowledge of proper procedure in a contrast reactionAble to process all films and make copiesMaintain clean, neat work area with proper disinfectants.Performs quality control in Radiology Dept:Performs routine maintenance checks to ensure proper equipment operation.Ensures QA is kept within all state and federal accreditation standardsAssists the Dept Manager with gathering QA data and makes suggestions for new QA indicators.Willingly assists with transporting of patients:Properly releasing all patient x-rays, and assists with all filing and removing of old films and reports.Shedule all patient exams and writing up patient paperwork prior to exams.Routinely perform technical aspects of patient care in a timely and safe manner according to established standards, policies and procedures:Qualifications
Education: Registered Radiologic Technologist with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or registry eligible as a graduate of an approved School of Radiologic Technology and to achieveregistration within 6 months of graduation or hire date.
Licensure: Registered radiologic technologist with the American Register of Radiologic Technologists.
