Description:

A cardiovascular technologist is responsible for performing exams and assist physicians during cardiovascular, peripheral vascular, electrophysiology and interventional radiology procedures.

This technologist can perform patient assessments and hemodynamic monitoring during a procedure. 

The position also covers general diagnostic exams, surgery procedures. This position requires 24-hour call availability.

Customers include: patients, family, visitors, colleagues, volunteers, nurses, physicians, and vendors, as well, as regulatory agencies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Adheres to the principles of caring and expected behaviors outlined in MercyOne Medical Center's Model of Caring and Trinity Health's Code of Conduct, fostering a climate where all customers are treated in a manner consistent with MercyOne Medical Center's Mission and Values. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior. Assist the physician in the performance of all diagnostic and interventional or invasive procedures. Responsible for the operation of imaging equipment, monitoring equipment and the preparation of supplies necessary for a procedure. Assist patients/families in achieving outcomes through evaluation and assessment of needs, education, and participates in the delivery of care. Perform vascular closure procedures under limited supervision.

5.   Responsible for the intravascular ultrasound system.

Inform and educate patients about examinations being performed and obtain consent to perform procedure. Check requisitions and charts to confirm order for the requested examination, and obtain all appropriate information needed prior to performing the examination. Check patient by two identifiers (name and birth date) to verify correct patient before beginning a procedure. Transport patients to and from patient care areas. Perform and assist with radiographic and fluoroscopic examinations pertinent to the patient population from infants to geriatrics using independent judgment in order to complete the examination in a timely matter. Practice proper radiation protection techniques in accordance with prescribed safety standards in regard to self, patients and staff, when ionizing radiation is present. Demonstrate knowledge of office procedures and duties within the Cardiology and Radiology Departments. Maintains daily supplies in assigned work area and recommends reordering of items. Participate in activities to impact change within the department and with other departments. Promote and establishes effective relationships within the department, with other departments, physicians, and with hospital guests and clients. Take an active role in enhancing abilities to carry out job functions through personal and professional job-related growth and development. Demonstrate a customer focused professional behavior at all times. Maintain the standard continuing education requirements. Follow the Scope of Practice set forth by the ASRT. Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Maintains a professional, collaborative work environment so as to foster a positive public image for MercyOne Dubuque/Dyersville Medical Center.  Knows and adheres to all laws and regulations pertaining to patient health, safety and medical information (i.e. HIPAA, Stark, etc.). Provides a high level of customer responsiveness and serves as a role model to encourage a commitment to customer service. A strong service orientation is required. Must have basic knowledge of radiation safety standards. Must be certified in Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support. Must have minimum typing skills. Must be able to select proper technical factors for radiation equipment. Must have a high degree of independent decision-making ability. Must be able to work well with patients, visitors, and staff and possess good communication skills. Must have knowledge of sterile technique. Possess strong interpersonal skills and demonstrate the ability to effectively work with other hospital employees and guests in a helpful, courteous manner. Must be competent to provide care within assigned unit to the population described in the unit's description of services.

                                                                                                                                                                        WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Frequently (21-50 of work time) subjected to interruptions and changing work priorities. Daily chance of exposure to minimal ionizing radiation. In an 8-hour day, employee must sit 1 hour, stand 5 hours and walk 2 hours. Job requires frequent (21%-50% of work time) bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, pushing and pulling. Job requires the occasional lifting and carrying of objects weighing approximately 50 lbs. Job requires the use of hands for repetitive action such as simple grasping, firm grasping and fine manipulating. Must be able to see at a near visual acuity level. Must be able to speak and hear speech. Must adhere to applicable organizational requirements on an annual basis for Employee Health Directives.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Graduate of an approved school of Radiologic Technology Program. Must be licensed by the Iowa Department of Public Health and the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and maintain a current status. Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training is required within 6 months of hire and every 3 years thereafter. Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) will be required within 30 days of hire and every 2 years thereafter. Must have basic ECG/ arrhythmia and, hemodynamics courses within six months.  ACLS within one year.

PREFERRED:

Advanced certifications in CI (Cardiac Interventional) or VI (Vascular-Interventional) registry, CVIT (Cardiovascular Interventional Technology) or RCIS (Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist) certification.
