Summary:
Under the direction of Urgent Care Practice Manager and indirectly under the direction of the TMH Manager Medical Imaging performs a variety of technical radiographic procedures; applies prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis. Performs clerical duties as well as EKG and phlebotomy functions. All essential functions performed in this position reflect the age specific needs of the pediatric adult and geriatric patient and adapt their care to the physical psychosocial and cultural needs. Fosters patient and family centered care in accordance with the Lifespan and LPG�s mission vision and values as well as cultural patterns.
Responsibilities:
Follows the Urgent Care Centers workflow protocols to maximize quality and efficiency. Works effectively and respectfully at his/her highest capabilities and training.
Protects and preserves the patient�s right to privacy and confidentiality in accordance with Lifespan�s policies.
Meets greets answers questions and provides an understandable explanation of radiologic examinations EKGs and phlebotomy tests to patients in order to reduce apprehension. Provides for safety and comfort of all patients in accordance with prescribed standards.
Answers phones and performs registration and checkout duties in accordance with policies.
Rooms patients ensures that exam room is cleaned between each patient and set-up appropriately according to policy and procedures.
Schedules patients for radiologic examinations in a prescribed manner ensuring an efficient patient flow. Places orders and tracks exams with accuracy consistency and promptness.
Performs required patient identification procedure on all patients presenting for a radiologic exam.
Performs radiographic exams demonstrating sound understanding of applicable equipment anatomical positioning physiology and technical factors in order to produce optimum results.
Transfers the images to the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) for physician review.
Scans documents into applicable systems for archiving and retrieval.
Follows protocols for appropriate usage of the applicable software such as Lifechart PACS Etc. and understands downtime processes.
Performs required quality control procedures and ensures equipment is performing as expected. Reports unit issues to Manager Medical Imaging.
Places EKG leads on patients to ensure a good tracing is recorded performs EKG tracings. Ensures the tracings are properly labeled and made part of the patient�s medical record.
Maintains orderliness cleanliness and adequate supplies for assigned area.
Provides coverage for the department as required and needed including weekends and holidays demonstrates coverage flexibility with shifts and locations.
Participates in the training and instruction of new Urgent Care Radiology Techs.
Maintains quality assurance safety regulations environmental and infection control in accordance with established hospital and department policies procedures and objectives.
Manages time effectively. Fills slow periods with activities to prepare for future needs. Minimizes non-productive time.
Attire and personal appearance must conform to departmental guidelines and standards.
Provides for safety and comfort of all patients in accordance with prescribed standards.
Performs other related duties as required.
Other information:
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Completion of formal training in an AMA-approved accredited school of radiologic technology or equivalent. Maintains a current license to work in the State of Rhode Island. Must hold current ARRT certification.
Basic life support certification required.
Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the lifespan with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
EXPERIENCE:
One-year experience as a Radiologic Technologist preferred.
Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with patients visitors physicians and staff of all levels and display empathy towards all patients.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Healthcare environment such as acute care hospitals physicians� offices and ancillary healthcare enterprises. Works with medical equipment and has direct patient contact. Any potential hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions including use safety equipment and protective clothing.
Walks and stands intermittently throughout the day. Subject to electrical and energy hazards. May lift and position patients and lift supplies up to 50 pounds.
