Summary:

The Radiologic Technologist, Limited License provides health care services applying ionizing radiation to assist in diagnosis or treatment of disease. The technologist performs diagnostic radiology procedures utilizing related techniques to produce images and radiographs for the interpretation by a Radiologist. The technologist exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complimentary to medical ethics. The technologist provides appropriate patient care and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure. The technologist adjusts daily operations to meet the needs of a changing work environment.

Experience/Education Requirements:

 

Experienced in medical imaging technology demonstrating competency to successfully complete diagnostic radiology procedures and maintain additional education in radiographic disciplines.

 

 

License or Certification Requirements:

 

Current student of an AMA accredited program in medical imaging and has successfully passed the limited license exam.IEMA required in Radiation Technology – Limited Accreditation.

Responsibilities:

 

Scope of procedures approved for this position include Chest, Extremity, Skull/Sinus, and Spine. Excluded procedures are Abdominal imaging, fluoro or surgical guidance exams.Assumes responsibility for provision of physical and psychological needs of patients during procedures.Prioritizes orders to reduce patient wait times and improve patient satisfaction.Performs high quality diagnostic radiographic procedures.Selects and operates radiographic equipment, imaging and/or associated accessories.Determines appropriate radiographic technique exposure factors.Uses collimation as appropriate and applies principles of radiation safety to minimize risk to patient, others and self.Uses markers on images.Uses two patient identifiers and verifies orders.Explain tests and procedures to patients.Positions patients and equipment to best demonstrate the anatomic area of interest.Immobilizes patient as required for appropriate examination.Completes exams, including documentation in EPIC, PACS.Documents a thorough patient clinical history in appropriate EMR locations.Enters orders into EPIC, uses correct account number.Evaluates images and data for technical quality, manipulates display parameters prior to submission to radiologist.Maintains archival storage of digital images as appropriate.Performs POCT for urine HCG.Completion of policystat acknowledgments.Cleans and stocks rooms, blanket warmers, maintains room supply stock.Makes CD's & film copies as needed.Reports equipment malfunctions immediately to appropriate areas and enters work tickets.Available and takes call to maintain appropriate staffing coverage.Uses universal precautions hand washing.Works well with students and provides practical instructions.Performs other duties and projects, as assigned.

Exposure/Sensory Requirements:

Exposure to:
Chemicals: Diagnostic technologist will be working with chemicals used with the processing of x-ray film.
Video Display Terminals: Average
Blood and Body Fluids: Diagnostic Technologist may be responsible for injection of contract media as part of their job function. They will assist the Radiologist in interventional procedures and perform other radiographic procedures that may cause contact with body fluids in this modality.
TB or Airborne Pathogens: Diagnostic Technologist will be in direct contact with patients and have potential of normal exposure to airborne pathogens.

Sensory requirements (speech, vision, smell, hearing, touch):
Speech: Required to communicate with patient regarding education, pre-procedure history information, procedure manipulation, and post-procedure instructions.
Vision: Needed to identify, from radiograph, the autonomy and manipulate for correct density and contract levels for the proper filming technique. Constant visual contact with patient to assure proper positioning of patient and for patient safety.
Smell: Helpful to note presence of electrical/fire safety.
Hearing: Needed for obtaining patient education and understanding of procedure and history information gathering.
Touch: Needed for operating computer equipment in keyboarding of entry and/or other functions for communication of information necessary for patient care.

Help lift patients into/out of wheelchairs. Able to lift stacks of radiographic jackets and carry to file room. Reach above their head for top shelf. Need to lift boxes of paper when rethreading printers and lifting report holders from above cabinets, carried for approximately 10'. May also need to assist patients from wheelchair on to and off of procedure tables.
