RADIOLOGY TECHNOLOGIST - ORTHOPEDICS - CASUAL

Job Summary 

Produces radiographs of various anatomical parts for diagnostic purposes as directed by the Orthopedic Physician. 

Essential Job Functions

Verifies pertinent data about the patient and procedure. Verifies patient identification using two identifiers. Verifies the physician order. Reviews the physician order to determine the optimal imaging procedure for suspected pathology. Verifies the patient's pregnancy status when appropriate. Provides information to the patient about the procedure. Verifies the patient has consented to the procedure. Provides accurate explanations and instructions at a level the patient understands. Analyzes the information obtained during assessment phase and determines optimal imaging parameters per diagnosis. Assesses factors that may contraindicate procedure. Selects appropriate shielding and immobilization devices. Obtains optimum images during exam/procedure. Sets adjusts radiographic equipment. Positions patients to obtain diagnostic images per physician direction. Utilizes equipment to maximize images. Develops films for review by the physician. Maintains storage of developed films. Documents accurate information about patient and exam. Accurately marks films with patient identifiers, name/SSN Accurately marks films with R & L or other markers per protocol. Maintains equipment and workstation in optimum condition. Performs daily QC on radiographic equipment. Assure adequate patient care and office supplies are maintained. Performs other duties of medical assistant and/or medical secretary on an as needed basis within physician office setting to ensure an efficient work flow for Orthopedic practice. Checks in patient by gathering the appropriate demographic information and verification of same Assists physician/physician assistant/extended by rooming patients and prepares x-ray image for viewing in exam room Assists physician/physician assistant/extended as needed to ensure expedition of patient care Checks out patient by scheduling return appointment as necessary Calls for authorization of MRI and surgical procedures as needed May complete forms/faxes as necessary as they regard to the patients treatment and follow up May assist in surgical scheduling as needed Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Completion of a (JRCERT) accredited Radiologic Technology Program. Related training/experience (preferably within the past five years) Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, and sound judgment. Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience. 

Preferred Qualifications 

Medical Terminology One-year medical-surgical experience

License, Certification & Clearances 

Current Registry with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Current Basic Life Support (BLS) approved curriculum of the American Heart Association (CPR and AED) program. Act 33 with renewal Act 34 with renewal Act 73 FBI Clearance

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on-call, etc.). Travel may be expected locally between Excela Health locations.
