Primary Responsibilities:
As an employee-owner in this Rail Bridge Engineer role, we’ll count on you to:
Serve as Discipline or Task Lead for railroad bridge/structural engineering/design projects, and other offices to support the Freight Rail Market Sector and other market sectors as needed.Support Project Managers by leading or participating in marketing and contracting activities.Manage scope, budget, and schedule, as well as the development of design criteria, specifications, project guides, project meeting notes, and cost-estimating activities.Perform railroad bridge/structural engineering/design planning, analysis, and design aspects of rail and rail-related transportation projects.Lead and/or perform detailed QC reviews of projects.Support Project Managers by leading, or participating in client and stakeholder visits, site visits, field assessments, and construction inspections as needed.Attend industry events and represent HDR as needed.Mentor younger staff and support technical development.Supervise junior staff performance of engineering tasks.Work across industries with rail, industrial, terminal, utility, agency, DOT, port, transit, and other industry clients.Provide leadership across technical disciplines.Preferred Qualifications:
Master's of Science in Structural Engineering.S.E. license.Ability to become licensed as a P.E. or P. Eng. in additional jurisdictions through the NCEES or similar.Project Management experience managing projects for rail, industrial or transit clients.Demonstrated client development or client management experience.Construction inspection or construction management experience is a plus.Experience in technical writing, communicating, and presenting to clients and the public is desirable.Familiarity with engineering software packages such as: LARSA, LEAP Bridge Enterprise, FB-MultiPier, LPile, SAP2000, CSiBridge, ADINA, spColumn, and/or LUSAS.Experience working with AREMA’s Manual for Railway Engineering and/or other railroad design guidelines, specifications, and criteria.Proficiency in railroad structural analysis programs, bridge design software, load rating and bridge rehabilitation.Desire to mentor younger staff and grow in skill set related to the railroad industry.#LI-MV3
Required QualificationsBachelor's degreePrevious experience in bridge designProfessional Engineer (PE) licenseSelect standard bridge engineering/designprocedures, develop structural details using specialized structural design and analysissoftware. Perform structural load calculations and geometric layout, quantitydevelopment. Familiarity with Bluebeam Revu and engineering software packages such as: LEAPBridge Enterprise, FB-MultiPier, LPile, AASHTOWare BrR, midas Civil, MDX,SAP2000, CSiBridge, RM Bridge, spColumn, STLBridgeLRFD, or STLBridge. Knowledge of ADINA, LUSAS, Bently OpenBridgeDesigner and OpenBridge Modeler and/or Autodesk Infraworks and Civil3d.
Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, MicroStation, AutoCAD, MathCAD, LARSA, Prestress Concrete DesignExperience using structural analysis programs and bridge design softwareExperience managing junior staffExcellent communication skills and working in a team environmentAn attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
