DESCRIPTION

Michael Baker continues to expand our growing construction services practice in Virginia. To enable continued growth, Michael Baker’s Great Lakes Construction Services Practice is seeking a Railroad Construction Manager- Site/ Civil to support the client projects onsite in Nokesville, VA This individual will lead construction projects and inspectors focused on providing construction services to freight rail and/or passenger rail clients within Virginia. We are looking for a Railroad focused leader who will collaborate with our Project Manager focused on serving our rail practice and to provide high quality construction services.

The Railroad Construction Manager- Site/ Civil will supervise the planning, coordination and implementation of railroad, civil and bridge construction projects in the state of VA.  Project responsibilities will include, but not be limited to: 

Maintain ultimate responsibility for delivery of project quality, cost, schedule, and safety: Develop, maintain, distribute, and update project-specific Project Management Plan, including Health and Safety Plans and Quality Management Plans Conduct safety meetings and training programs to ensure safety requirements are met Coordinate audits of quality management processes and procedures Sustain continuous improvement for all processes Provide inspection, field engineering, technical advisement for issues related to civil, track, and bridge construction activities, as-needed Direct and coordinate activities of project personnel to ensure progress remains on schedule and within project budget. Prepare project reports for management, client, or others Confer with project personnel to provide technical advice and resolve problems.   Oversee and mentor junior staff. Attend job, CM/Design coordination meetings, and technical meetings as required.   Coordinate with design review on RFIs and other issues Oversee coordination of staging, and shutdown/start-up operations to ensure uninterrupted rail, yard or facility operations   Assist in hiring staff as needed to support project needs Possess proven Client Management Skills including: Develop and maintain client relations to ensure satisfaction Interface with Key stakeholders and community public outreach programs, as needed for the assigned project Occasional travel may be required Other duties as assigned

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

4-year college degree in civil engineering, construction management or a related field 10+ years of experience in construction oversight or related experience Demonstrated proficiency in project safety, scheduling (CPM scheduling, Primavera, Microsoft Project), staffing, cost estimating, risk management, quality management, and project/document controls Professional Engineer (P.E.) license a plus Certified Construction Manager (CCM) a plus Familiarity with working in active rail projects is preferred Track safety certification or ability to obtain after start is required Proven experience working for freight rail and/or passenger rail clients is preferred Civil or rail experience is required; experience with both civil and rail is preferred  Ability to manage various levels and numbers of staff Aptitude for communicating with owner/client staff, contractors, and subconsultants (Excellent English language skills, written and verbal, are essential) Commitment to and confirmed track record of safely delivering projects on time, under budget, and of the utmost quality Dedication to project goals, client satisfaction, corporate aspirations, growth objectives, staff development, and operational excellence

COMPENSATION
The approximate compensation range for this position is $82,804 - $155,000. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
