Rail/Transit Systems Estimator II

The primary duties of the Cost Estimator are to develop conceptual, budgetary, and production-based construction cost estimates. Responsibilities include plan and specification review, bid item and construction quantity take-offs, and preparation of estimates.

The Cost Estimator may also perform plan constructability reviews, estimate quality reviews, and participate in cost risk and value engineering studies. The individual may coordinate with design and construction staff to obtain estimate scope and schedule data upon which to base estimates. They will also produce capital cost estimates using various methodologies ranging from parametric to crew-based approach, including formation of crews from multiple disciplines.

Other responsibilities include:

Perform and review methodology for quantity takeoffs from design drawings and develop conceptual quantities to supplement partial design documentsPrepare basis and assumption documentation denoting rationale, inclusions and exclusionsDevelop and perform analysis of project cash models and the corresponding time value of money as the cost of working capital correlating scheduled activities and costSupport risk analysis assessment by identifying areas of riskParticipate in estimate reviews and presentations as appropriatePreferred QualificationsCertifications (one or more): AEP, CPE, CCT, CEP, PSP, EVP, PMI-SP, PMP, CCM, PRMP, EIT, PE Ability to interpret construction schedules Minimum of 7 years of cost estimating experience including heavy civil type projects including, but not limited to highway, structures, and transit Knowledge of construction means and methods, production rates, labor, equipment and material requirements of the work Experience with HCSS HeavyBid Experience with CAD software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or Microstation Experience with takeoff software such as On-Screen Takeoff or BluebeamRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or Construction Science Engineering or equivalent experienceA minimum of 5 years' experience in producing estimates in a competitive environment and assessing cost risks based on contract terms and conditions relative to a cost estimateKnowledge of EPC estimating methods, processes, and procedures, in addition to the estimate types, classifications, and components. Experience with Lump Sum Design Build estimates. Specifically understands detail level estimates and design packagesKnowledge of market pricing and pricing sources in the area of specialization.Knowledge of Work Breakdown Structures necessary for cost managementMust be proficient with Primavera and TimberlineAn attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
