The School of Health and Natural Sciences at Mercy University invites qualified candidates for a 9-month open-rank faculty position in the Health Sciences Program in the School of Health and Natural Sciences at Mercy University beginning September 1, 2025.
Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:
Mercy University seeks qualified candidates for a 9-month faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor to teach within the Health Sciences Program. The focus of this position is on teaching excellence in the Health Promotion program at our Bronx and Dobbs Ferry campuses, including courses which lead to eligibility to sit for the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) exam. Candidates with experience in teaching a diverse population of students is required and those with experience in integrating innovative approaches to promoting student success and developing an inclusive community both inside and outside the classroom will be given preference.
This is an opportunity to join the School of Health and Natural Sciences with 4 accredited graduate Health Professional Programs (Communication Disorders, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Physician Assistant Studies) and undergraduate programs in Biology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Communication Disorders, Exercise Science, Occupational Therapy Assistant (AAS degree), and Veterinary Technology.
Responsibilities:
+ Teach health promotion courses that lead to eligibility to sit for the CHES exam to a diverse population of students
+ Participate in student success initiatives
+ Develop community partnerships in the Bronx and Westchester communities and secure experiential and service-learning opportunities for health science students
+ Conduct curriculum review and development activities for Health Science students
+ Participate in student recruitment and admissions activities at the Bronx and Westchester campuses, including open houses and accepted students’ days
+ Develop co-curricular opportunities for health science students
+ Serve on Health Science Program professional advisory board with community partners
+ Provide mentorship to adjunct faculty for assigned courses
+ Actively participate in university, department, and program meetings
+ Complete other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Preferred Skills & Experiences:
+ Demonstrated sensitivity to and desire to promote diversity and health equity
+ Experience working collaboratively with faculty from a wide range of disciplines, cultures and academic backgrounds
+ Evidence of active participation in professional associations with an emphasis on community health, health behavior and/or health education
Required Skills & Experience:
+ Experience in integrating innovative approaches to promoting student success and developing an inclusive community
+ Experience teaching online with Learning Management Systems (LMS), particularly with Blackboard and teleconferencing software, particularly Zoom and BlackBoard Collaborate are preferred
+ A record of engaging with and cultivating community partners that will lead to the development of a rich pool of experiential learning opportunities for our students
+ Experience integrating high impact teaching practices and active learning into courses
+ Previous community health work experience
+ Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
+ Strong technology skills
Education Requirements:
+ Earned doctoral degree (PhD, DrPH, DHS, ScD, EdD or similar) in Public Health, Health Education, Health Science, Health Promotion, Health Behavior, or a closely related field (e.g. Maternal & Child Health) is required
Preferred Educational Requirements:
+ Current Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES)/Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES) credential or Certified in Public Health (CPH) or Master of Public Health (MPH) degree

The Mercy University Retirement Plan is comprised of two components:
Deferred Compensation Plan
All eligible employees may contribute to the Deferred Compensation Plan on a pre-tax basis upon joining the University.
Defined Contribution Plan
Eligible employees are enrolled in the Defined Contribution Plan after two (2) years of full-time employment at Mercy University and receive a semi-monthly contribution from the College, based on age and salary. If an employee is under age 36, they will receive a contribution of 3.3% of their annual salary each pay period. If an employee is age 36 or older, they will receive a contribution of 9% of their annual salary each pay period.
If employed full-time for two (2) or more consecutive years by another institution(s) of higher education (college or university), without an intervening break in service within the last twelve (12) months prior to employment before joining Mercy, please submit a waiting period waiver form to Office of Human Resources. The Defined Contribution will begin as of the first day of the month following receipt of the completed waiver form.
