The School of Health and Natural Sciences at Mercy University invites qualified candidates to apply for a full-time (12-month) open rank, faculty position to serve as the Director of Clinical Education in the Occupational Therapy Doctorate Program in the School of Health and Natural Sciences at Mercy University beginning July 2025.
This is an opportunity to join the accredited Occupational Therapy Program located on the Westchester campus in Dobbs Ferry, NY. The OT Program is part of the School of Health and Natural Sciences with 5 accredited graduate health professional programs (communication disorders, occupational therapy, nursing, physical therapy, and physician assistant studies) and undergraduate programs in biology, clinical laboratory science, communication disorders, exercise science, nursing, occupational therapy assistant (AAS degree), and veterinary technology. We have a strong focus on interprofessional education as well as local and global community service.
Primary responsibilities include teaching courses in occupational therapy, overseeing fieldwork component of the Program and ensuring the program is compliant with fieldwork standards of the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education, academic advising, and serving on program committees. The ideal candidate will also have experience as a fieldwork educator or coordinator in either an academic or clinical setting.
Salary and rank are competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:
• Assisting students with obtaining fieldwork placements. This includes but is not limited to generating new placement sites, maintaining on- going professional relationships with existing sites, and ensuring that students are aware of fieldwork opportunities.
• Collaborating closely with fieldwork educators to develop fieldwork experiences that most closely match the program learning outcomes.
• Ensuring that students participating in fieldwork experiences adhere to the standards of training as outlined by the accrediting body, placement site and program coordinator.
• Assuring that all written contracts or letters of agreement between the educational institution and fieldwork education placement are signed and periodically reviewed.
• Ensuring that all written contractual agreements between the University and fieldwork education placements are established prior to assigning students.
• Maintaining a collaborative relationship with fieldwork educators. This may include making regular, periodic contacts with fieldwork educators at sites where students are attending.
• Identifying and developing new sites for fieldwork education that provide the best match with the Program's curriculum design and student interest.
• Assisting with the development and implementation of policies for the progression of students through the various fieldwork placements.
• Orienting students to the general protocol for fieldwork experiences and providing them with the appropriate resources to support success.
• Reviewing the quality and appropriateness of fieldwork experiences (e.g., facilities, fieldwork staff, supervision, policies) through student feedback, site visits, and other information in order to make recommendations for continued partnerships.
• Advising students regarding fieldwork site selection.
• Coordinating educational opportunities for clinical instructors.
• Working with the program director to ensure that fieldwork placements meet accreditation standards as outlined by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education.
• Documenting student performance; collaborating with the fieldwork educators in advising students.
• Performing other administrative duties as outlined by the Program.
• Teaching within areas of clinical expertise.
• Service on program and school committees.
• Responsible for all related duties as assigned by the Program Director and Dean.
Qualifications
Required Skills & Experience:
• Be licensed or have the ability to obtain licensure as an occupational therapist in New York.
• Have a minimum of 5 years of clinical practice as an occupational therapist.
• Show integrity, strong ethics, and respect for others.
• Be willing to travel to experiential sites, seminars, and conferences as needed.
• Excellent administrative and organizational skills; exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work effectively as a member of a dynamic team in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
• Have a minimum of 1 year of teaching experience.
Education Requirements:
• Have earned an entry-level occupational therapy degree and must possess an earned doctorate in occupational therapy or a related area (OTD, PhD, EdD, DSc, etc.) from a regionally accredited institution.
Other Qualifications:
• New York State License or eligibility for a NY License as an Occupational Therapist
• Must be able to meet all general health requirements for the position as per university policies.

The Mercy University Retirement Plan is comprised of two components:
Deferred Compensation Plan
All eligible employees may contribute to the Deferred Compensation Plan on a pre-tax basis upon joining the University.
Defined Contribution Plan
Eligible employees are enrolled in the Defined Contribution Plan after two (2) years of full-time employment at Mercy University and receive a semi-monthly contribution from the College, based on age and salary. If an employee is under age 36, they will receive a contribution of 3.3% of their annual salary each pay period. If an employee is age 36 or older, they will receive a contribution of 9% of their annual salary each pay period.
If employed full-time for two (2) or more consecutive years by another institution(s) of higher education (college or university), without an intervening break in service within the last twelve (12) months prior to employment before joining Mercy, please submit a waiting period waiver form to Office of Human Resources.
