Summary About the position: This position will be assigned to the Tinker Outdoor Recreation Program. Must be able to physically lead outdoor adventure trips. Must be able to travel out of the local area and stay overnight. Responsibilities Serves as the Outdoor Recreation Programmer for Tinker AFB. Plans, directs, and manages outdoor recreation programs for Tinker Outdoor Recreation (ODR). Provides clear and accurate guidance to groups and individuals on a variety of outdoor activities such as camping, canoeing, boating, hiking, bicycling, trips/outings, nature walks and aquatic outings. Is the ODR expert in outdoor programs and Oklahoma local area resources for outdoor activities. Works independently with guidance provided when needed for new or complex programs. Able to solve problems in remote locations with little or no support from home base. Implements higher level directives, formulates procedures and programs to ensure high standards of ODR programs. Provides input to the budget process, ensuring that programs conducted meet financial goals. Ensures all programs scheduled are conducted within the limitations of the geographic area, staff, equipment and funds availability. Conducts and analyzes regular customer surveys and obtains feedback to facilitate program and facility/equipment improvements. Schedules programs according to patron interests. Coordinates ODR programs with various off-base agencies, participants, volunteers and paid staff to ensure the best possible experience for ODR customers. Provides trained and adequate staff for scheduled activities through the use of volunteers, paid staff and contracted instructors. Prepares required paperwork to contract instructors. Coordinates special events of a "one time" or "recurring" nature. Maintains programs historical files. Ensures all program staff is current in CPR and First Aid certification. Ensures safety is incorporated into each program through briefings, demonstrations, etc. Arranges for supplies, transportation and service needed to conduct special programs and trips. Ensures all vehicles are properly maintained. Ensures all programming equipment and supplies are ordered and received prior to event date. Maintains accurate inventory of all program equipment. Develops an annual program calendar that meets Air Force Golden Eagle Standards. Ensures programs are actively publicized by traditional and non-traditional strategies. Prepares presentations, gives briefings about the Outdoor Adventure Program for functions, meetings, Commander's Calls, etc. on base. Develops workshops, seminars, education classes, training and demonstrations that precede outdoor adventure trips. Researches market trends and customer needs in order to plan and operate the gear resale operation. Follows procedures for internal controls, handling cash and fixed assets. Prepares appropriated and non-appropriated fund program operating budget requirements for submission to the Outdoor Recreation Director. Acts as Outdoor Recreation Director in the Director'sabsence. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Qualifying Experience: Applicant must have knowledge of the principles and techniques of recreation programming. Requires a four year undergraduate course in a recreation related field or three years of experience in outdoor recreation programming. Must possess practical knowledge of and/or experience in the use of recreation equipment and rules and procedures in the outdoor field. Must be able to physically lead outdoor adventure trips. Must be able to communicate both orally and in writing. Must possess skill in dealing with the public. Basic computer literacy is necessary. Basic cash handling and clerical experience is required. Must be able to frequently lift up to 60 lbs and occasionally 75 lbs. Must pass a basic physical. A favorable T1 background investigation is required. Must be able to work an uncommon tour of duty including evenings, weekends, holidays and/or special events. Must be able to travel out of the local area and stay overnight. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does allow for education substitution. FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying. Additional Information Individual must fully meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
