This position manages the overall operation of centers and supervises personnel, handles business/cash transactions, attends workshops to enhance skills and generate ideas for events. The Recreation Supervisor, Senior may also work on planning committees for city-wide activities and assist in implementing those activities. Department Hiring Salary Range: $54,601 - $62,791 Essential Functions Essential functions include but are not limited to: + Manages several recreational sites by conducting site visits, providing recommendations, evaluating programs, interpreting policies, reviewing work schedules, resolving issues, recruiting, hiring and training employees, and conducting performance evaluations. + Oversees programs by coordinating and leading program planning and implementation, researching program activities, and cultivating sponsorships and partnerships. + Monitors records by gathering data, compiling and reviewing reports and schedules, and overseeing the submission of reports and paperwork. + Coordinates the development of budget proposals and manages fiscal resources by overseeing capital improvement projects, coordinating budgets, performing analyses, making cost savings and operational improvements recommendations, and reconciling errors and discrepancies. + Investigates policy violations by preparing, reviewing, and evaluating incident reports, interviewing related parties, and overseeing workers compensation claims. + Promotes events by developing displays and making public presentations, overseeing the distribution of media releases, composing articles for publication, and representing the City in public forums. + Interacts with citizens by greeting customers, handling inquiries, addressing concerns, and providing information. + Managerial responsibilities include supervision of subordinate’s performance, plan activities, special events, work schedules, field trips, staff assignments, committee assignments, and training for staff. + Performs administrative activities by compiling and reviewing reports and schedules, completing inventory, submitting paperwork, collecting monies, and maintaining/monitoring the budget. Education/Experience Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor's degree or equivalent. Three years supervisory experience in a recreational or similar setting. Additional Information & Requirements Work Location: City of Norfolk Work Hours: Monday to Sunday, 6:00 am to 12:00 am; not to exceed 40 hours per week. Flexible hours will apply including weekends, holidays, and special events. Signing Bonus: This position is eligible for a one-time $5,000 signing bonus for applications received on or after February 22, 2022. The signing bonus will be paid in two (2) increments: $2,500 upon completion of 60 days of employment, and $2,500 upon completion of your probationary period. To receive the signing bonus, you must be an active employee in good standing. + Regular full-time and permanent part-time employees may receive paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, employer paid pension plan, basic life insurance, voluntary participation in medical and dental, Section 457 deferred compensation, long-term disability, optional life insurance for self, spouse and children, medical and dependent care reimbursement plans, access to membership in credit union and employer provided parking. + Special project/grant employees are generally eligible for the same benefits of regular full-time employees; however, retirement, life insurance and participation in health plans vary depending upon funding and authorization. + Temporary/seasonal and part-time employees are generally only eligible for employer provided parking and access to membership in credit union. + Retirement If you are hired October 5, 2010, or after to a position with City of Norfolk Retirement System benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction. If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction. + The Tuition Assistance Program is established to encourage employees toward continued self-development and education. Permanent full-time and permanent part-time classified, unclassified permanent, full-time special projects, and constitutional employees who have completed six months continuous service will be eligible to apply.
