Recreation Therapist, Psych: PT 7a-7p Weekend Only

What You Will Do:

Provides assessment to determine patients capacities, skills and limitations. Documents activities related goals on patient Treatment Plan and ensures plan is current/signed. Provides ongoing assessment of patient’s needs and makes recommendations to the treatment team and subsequent reviews/revisions of treatment plan in compliance with departmental policy. Offers programs that reflect the patient’s needs, interests, limitations and capabilities. Provides programming to improve mobility, coordination, and socialization skills. Recreational therapies are diversified to meet patients’ needs and may cover a variety of topics such as: team activities, stretching and limbering exercises, general knowledge re: exercising and use of related equipment, stress management, goal setting, leisure skills, relaxation and life skills. Ensures activities promote creative expression and skills for symptom management, recovery and independence and are evidenced-based. Informs and documents any significant behavioral, cognitive, or physical response that warrants such documentation in the daily progress notes. Orients patients to the activity program and the expected outcomes of participation. Makes a concerted effort/rounding to encourage patient participation in activities therapies. Provides a minimum of three (3) activities groups per 8-hour day, one in the special care and two on the main unit. Does not cancel groups without management approval Takes responsibility for group attendance by educating the patients about the benefits of the recreational therapy program; offering activities that are requested and of interest at times most suitable to the patients; talking with physicians and family members to encourage patients to attend; escorting patients to groups if necessary. Coordinates special events consistent with patient need and interest. Ensures that routine weekend recreational therapy activities are organized and able to be provided by other staff. Routinely relays patient’s progress, needs, or other pertinent information to other treatment team members. Regularly demonstrates the ability to serve patients of all ages in the routine performance of duties including the provision of activity services for adolescents when admitted on the unit.

What You Will Need:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited university, and active therapeutic recreation is required.

Must be currently certified in CPR and re-certified every two years. Therapists will work a schedule dictated by patient need and approved by unit management which includes some evenings and weekends.
