Recreation Therapist: Adult Day Services

DDI provides innovative and expansive services to our population through various educational settings, residential services, day habilitation programs and vocational services. 

Salary: $19.89-$23.87/hr

What you'll do: In partnership with the Recreation Therapy Coordinator, oversee the direct support staff with regards to implementation of therapeutic recreation activities. Train staff regarding therapeutic recreational activities. Implementation of Emergency Procedures when needed. Annually evaluate assigned individuals with respect to leisure/recreation skills and peer socialization. Complete summaries of participant functioning through review of established programs noting all modifications and directions to be taken in unison with the Comprehensive Functional Assessment as needed. Update attainment section of all recreation goals plans of assigned individuals and ensure placement of new goal plans. Assist the program in maintenance and replacement of all motor/recreational equipment as directed by Recreation Therapy Coordinator. Develop and/or implement motor/recreational goals which are behaviorally measurable and based on identified need in the area(s) of recreational/leisure skills and socialization identified through the evaluation process and agreed to by the Interdisciplinary Team. Develop necessary charts and forms for data collection on individual recreation programs. Responsible for review of all data for individual recreation program, making individual-specific changes when necessary and documentation of on a monthly basis. Monitor program interventions through direct observation and consultation with staff implementing procedure.  Instruct day hab staff on interventions made and procedures to be implemented by staff. Responsible to run recreational/leisure groups for units according to schedule established by the Recreation Therapy Coordinator. Responsible to help run building wide recreational/leisure groups as specified by Supervisor Responsible for community-based programming (e.g., Special Olympics, list utilization of community resources, and group trips). Active and professional participation in review meetings for assigned participants as an integral member of the Interdisciplinary Team. Active participation in weekly department meetings. Active and professional participation in staff in service training as assigned by Supervisor Other duties as assigned. What you bring to us: HS Diploma 1 year of experience working with individuals with I/DD Ability to travel to multiple sites Ability to read, understand and follow safety guidelines You must be able to: Must be able to modify the area to secure the safety of the adults i.e. move/push tables and other heavy objects up to 20 lbs. Must be able to able to lift, bend, twist, carry a minimum of 35 lbs Must be able to run after an individual up to 500 feet Must be able to run to a program in need up to 500 feet Must be able to kneel, twist and bend Must be able to perform all physical SCIP techniques
