Homewood Ravensview is a private 75-bed mental health, trauma and addiction facility offering evidence-based, medically-led, inpatient services for first responders, military, veterans, executives & professionals, adults, and young adults.  Located in North Saanich on 28 acres of forested hillside, Homewood Ravensview offers clients a comfortable and safe environment featuring serene ocean views from spacious rooms, welcoming common areas and a world-class team of physicians, psychiatrists, counsellors and 24-hour nursing professionals.

As a Recreational Therapist, you will be an integral part of a collaborative interdisciplinary team focused on delivering seamless services and programs to our clients and customers.

The Recreational Therapist is responsible for assessing, identifying and providing therapeutic interventions concerning behavioural patterns that inhibit the development and expression of a healthy leisure lifestyle. Services are provided within a team model, using a client-centered approach. Interventions may include facilitating groups and individual interventions.

What you’ll be doing:

Conducts ongoing assessment of group readiness and participation with respect to mood, social interaction, functional level, attitude, suicide risk, and behaviours affecting the recovery process. Assesses leisure functioning and leisure needs/problems utilizing standardized assessment tools, group process, 1:1 interview, and observation skills. Effectively communicates and documents results assessments to the client and team according to program/discipline standards. Assumes a therapeutic role in clients' motivation, counselling, supervision, and instruction in recreation therapy interventions. Facilitates psychoeducational groups related to recreation therapy. Provides leisure skill development opportunities in a safe context to experience new behaviours. Provides individual counselling following Recreation Therapy assessment about findings and specific needs. Documents treatment and ongoing progress on the patient, according to Recreation Therapy and facility standards. Supports individual skill development relating to community leisure resources, which promotes integration. Develop, implement, and evaluates programs based on patient needs.

What we’re looking for:

Bachelor’s Degree; Therapeutic Recreation, Graduate Certificate in Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation Therapy Diploma Experience working with mental health and addictions populations   Registration with BCTRA OR Certification with the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (CTRS) Knowledge of standardized and non-standardized assessments. Assessment of group dynamic and facilitation skills for group therapy. Service-specific training is an asset i.e., wellness education, knowledge of issues of childhood trauma and sexual abuse, Psychosocial Rehabilitation, Recovery, CBT, CPR, Mental Health Act, PHIPA, knowledge of concurrent addiction disorders for specific addiction assessment tools. Strong organizational and time management skills. Excellent presentation skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Current First Aid and CPR.

Homewood Health promotes a fair and competitive compensation model.  Pay rates are tailored to reflect differences in operating environments and job requirements.  Compensation is influenced by many factors including compensation principles or approach for a role or job function, organizational tenure, experience, qualifications or premium skills, external competitiveness, internal comparability, geography and work performance. Pay range for this position is $27.65 - $38.50.
