Recreation Therapist

Under the supervision of the Residential Services Administrator, the Recreation Therapist in consultation with each individual's Manager, plans, develops and implements recreational and meaningful life activities for individuals served. Supervises the DSP and recreational staff who lead the trips. Coordinates the 919 volunteer and agency event programs in accordance with Richmond policies and procedures.
Essential Job Functions:
1. In conjunction with the Interdisciplinary Treatment Team (ITT), develops implements, and supervises all daily recreation programs for the individuals residing at the 919 North Broadway residence.
2. Provides art therapy, music, dance movement and other health and wellness programs.
3. In coordination with Workforce Development, provides training for professional and direct support staff in the proper implementation of leisure/recreation activities and appropriate staff functions in the community based events.
4. Plans for and oversees all leisure and meaningful Person Centered life activities for the individuals residing at 919 in order to ensure appropriate implementation of recreation activities, maintenance of quality standards and person centeredness.
5. In coordination with the ITT, ensures that appropriate recreational equipment and materials are available for all individuals residing at 919. This includes maintaining inventory and ordering supplies as necessary, community resources on events and schedules.
6. Oversees the services provided by external creative arts therapists and provides feedback to them regarding suitability. Ensures that budget for all programs are maintained.
7. In coordination with Residence Managers at 919, utilizes community resources to plan and coordinate recreational trips, in-house events, and holiday celebrations, and ensures that all team individuals participate.
8. In coordination with the External Events Management Planner and Residential Managers, plans, coordinates, and implements the annual Richmond “Funfest” activities. Provides materials for fund raising and marketing events.
9. Develops and submits projected annual recreational budget for management approval and monitors recreation expenses throughout the year.
10. In consultation with Residential Director, participates in strategic planning of Agency's projected recreation programs.
11. Interviews, hires and terminates staff for functional area(s) of responsibility in consultation with Human Resources (HR). Provides staff with on-going direction and feedback regarding performance. Counsels staff and administer discipline as needed, in accordance with Richmond policies. Objectively evaluates staff and completes performance appraisals in a timely manner.
12. Develops sources for recruiting volunteers, e.g., schools, volunteer centers, ads, postings, etc. for 919 residential site.
13. In conjunction with Workforce Development (WFD) ensures orientation for new volunteers and acts as a liaison with WFD to ensure completion of appropriate in-services.
14. Coordinates scheduling of volunteers and tracks volunteer's time.
15. Coordinates and incorporates Rehab group activity and provide feedback for effectiveness and necessary changes.
Work Schedule
This position works a regularly scheduled 35-hour workweek; this position is non-exempt and is eligible for overtime pay.
Qualifications & Minimum Requirements
Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Recreation or Creative Arts Therapy.
Experience: A minimum of two years related experience. Previous supervisory experience preferred.
Other:
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must successfully complete and maintain certification for required training in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
• Must have valid driver’s license and complete and maintain Richmond Driver Authorization.
• Must be flexible to work frequent evening and weekend hours.
