Recreation Therapist - Behavioral Health Services
Overview The Recreation Therapist, Staff is a dynamic professional responsible for comprehensive patient care through therapeutic recreation. They actively develop, implement, and document results of interventions aimed at maintaining physical, mental, and emotional well-being. This role focuses on reducing depression, stress, and anxiety by utilizing recreation-based treatments. The Recreation Therapist, Staff plays a crucial part in patient's confidence building, offering social opportunities as they prepare for discharge and community reintegration. They encourage patients with special needs and circumstances to acquire new skills and engage in health promoting leisure activities. In diverse settings such as the emergency department, G-Bay, 1C, and other identified areas, this position delivers professional recreational therapy treatment/services to both individuals and groups. This position facilitates social groups encompassing art, music, gym activities, chair yoga, sporting games, board games, gardening, dance, and movement. Additionally, the Recreation Therapist, Staff screens, assesses, establishes treatment plans for individual and group services, and reports pertinent patient observations to the treatment team, ensuring effective communication with patients of varying age groups. The Recreation Therapist, Staff will order and maintain supplies and equipment for the assigned treatment area, ensuring a well-equipped and efficient therapeutic environment. Documentation of patient progress, participation in program evaluation, and support in training and evaluating recreational therapy interns and volunteers are integral aspects of this impactful role.
