Recreation Therapy Coordinator

The responsibility of the Recreation Coordinator is to ensure day to day provision of Recreation Services to all individuals in Adult Day Services. 

Salary Range: $62,400 - $74,880 / year

Responsibilities: Day to day supervision of the Recreation Program throughout Adult Day Services and the Athletics Academy, ensuring appropriate staffing ratios during activities. Ensure implementation of individual Program Plans regarding Recreation Services.  Responsible for the hiring, training and oversight of all recreation staff personnel, including the Athletics Academy staff. Ensure individual satisfaction across all recreation opportunities. Responsible for supervision of all Recreation staff Develop community integration opportunities to promote individual growth. Ensure continuance of current recreational programs including the woodshop, art gallery and other custom programs already in place Ensure the completion of permission/releases as necessary for program participation and special events. Review the appropriate use of recreational/socialization techniques during recreation sessions to determine effectiveness of programs. Review and modify recreational/socialization systems in place and assign staff to maximize individual and group performance. Consistently analyze new programs for implementation into the Adult Day Services’ programs. Ensure annual evaluation of all individuals with respect to Leisure/Recreational skills, peer socialization and individual areas of interest. Conduct weekly staff meetings and assure participation of Recreation staff at assigned Zone meetings Ensure ongoing provision and maintenance of supplies and equipment, including proper safeguarding practices. Complete all required trainings/certifications; participate in Peer Mentoring Program, in-service workshops, and recertification trainings as required. Completes required training credits per year as per DDI training policy.  Provide protective oversight and advocacy for individuals served. Complete incident reports as per 624 Regulations and SCIP-R reports as necessary.  Provide accurate implementation of Emergency Procedures.  Demonstrate knowledge of all OPWDD and DDI policy and procedures as they pertain to individuals supported, and documentation of such. Other duties as assigned.  Qualifications: High School diploma  Three years’ experience working with individuals with I/DD Practical and Theoretical knowledge of adult leisure/recreational/socialization goals with the developmentally disabled. Valid NYS driver’s license and become approved to drive an agency vehicle within 3 months of hire. Essential Physical Demands: Must be able to lift/move/carry 40 lbs. Must be able to kneel, twist and bend and run  Must be able to respond to fire alarms Must be able to perform all physical SCIP techniques Must be able to lead rigorous physical group activities
