Job Summary:
To provide appropriate information, education and liaison services to support teaching, scientific investigation, patient care, and public service programs at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.
Essential Job Functions:
Serves as liaison to departments as the primary contact and communication link for library and information related activities. Assists clients in securing needed information using appropriate reference tools and information sources. Interfaces with clients to conduct reference interviews and provide timely information in a variety of methods including face to face, telephone, and electronic methods including email and interactive chat. Performs literature searches in appropriate databases, including for systematic review support. Assists clients in citation management using bibliographic citation management tools. Creates and maintains web based guides to support liaison departments and general resource discovery. Assists with library education programs by developing education materials and tutorials; teaching in courses, as requested; and presenting in library classes, orientations, demonstrations, and tours. Assists in collection development by providing subject area expertise for selection and de-selection. Establishes and maintains good working relationships and a professional environment. Represents the library within the UTMB community, and with other librarians. Collects data and statistics on reference, liaison and education activities. Maintains expertise by participating in relevant conferences, committees, workshops, and seminars. Performs related duties as required.Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Must possess communication skills and verbal presentation abilities for interaction with the library staff and users. Ability to plan, organize, set and accomplish goals, and be self-motivated. Ability to analyze / evaluate data and make appropriate recommendations. Ability to promote and work in a team concept to accomplish goals. Ability to be assertive and flexible while working under constant time constraints. Knowledge of library science principles and procedures. Ability to conduct literature searches in multiple platforms and databases. Thorough knowledge of health science literature and reference tools.Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in Library Sciences and one year related experience.Preferred Qualifications:
