The Referral Response Coordinator (RRC) utilizes healthcare knowledge, expertise, independent industry specific judgement and medical protocols to support all aspects of the organ donation referral process in the Donor Service Area (DSA) hospitals in Oregon, southern Washington, and southwest Idaho.

 

This position will provide referral call coverage and on-site response to area hospitals to conduct medical evaluation on all potential organ donors and develop a plan with the healthcare team to maintain the option of donation. The RRC also acts as an integral support role to the other clinical roles at Cascade Life Alliance (CLA). The duties of this position are in support of CLA's mission and goals.

Function/Duties of Position

Referral Response

Collects pre-screening information on all incoming donor-related calls, documenting information according to CLA’s policies and procedures.Evaluates incoming organ referrals for initial donor eligibility and communicates accurate referral information with the Administrator on Call (AOC).Monitors current organ referrals to determine and evaluate changes in plan of care utilizing EMR review and communication with the hospital care team.Performs initial and subsequent onsite huddles on local referrals.Collaborates with the healthcare team to maintain the option of donation for the family. Updates relevant internal and external stakeholders on status of active referrals and donor cases.Provides real-time education to hospital staff about the donation process.Collaborates with the Hospital Development department to ensure customer service needs are met for donor hospital partners.

Team Support

Assists onsite Organ Donation Coordinator with various case functions such as chart completion, allocation calls and other logistical tasks as needed. Maintains ability to perform case starts in certain circumstances (this includes serology testing, standing orders, basic donor management and chart completion).Collaborates with the DFA team to facilitate authorization or disclosure with the legal NOK and accurately conducts a donor risk assessment interview with identified surrogate of the potential organ donor.Activates staff for relief as appropriateCoordinates logistics when necessary on active organ referrals and donor cases. Peer reviews charts, assists with cultures or any other Quality Assurance chart completion tasks as needed.

Participates in meetings as requested by the department manager.

 

Performs other duties as assigned by the AOC and CLA leadership.

Required Qualifications Associates of Science Degree with healthcare related focus or equivalent experience.2-years recent relevant clinical or educational experience.Extensive clinical healthcare knowledge base, with the ability to quickly and independently exercise sound clinical judgement in an often stressful environment. Excellent communication skills, flexible, highly motivated, a good team member with a positive attitude.Must be able to work in an adaptive fashion with a wide range of professional and nonprofessional constituents including but not limited to governmental officials, students, healthcare staff and the public.Must have a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.Compliance with Code of Conduct, Respect in the workplace and Applicable policies, procedures and agreements related to position, department or OHSU as a whole

Additional Details The referral response coordinator triages all incoming patient referrals, conducts onsite huddles in partner hospital ICU’s as appropriate, remotely assists onsite Organ Donation Coordinators. The RRC works for 12-24 hour period and may travel via commercial aircraft and vehicle. Marketing and education responsibilities include: Provide education to hospital staff for the purpose of increasing organ donationWill work 12-24 hour shifts and be able to function for extended hours in an intense, high-paced environment. Have a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle. Must be available to drive in weather conditions year-round across the DSA.
