I. PRIMARY FUNCTION/GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Coordinator will be responsible for obtaining the proper authorization and or/ pre-certification for all procedures done outside of the primary care physician’s office, as deemed necessary by the patient’s insurance company.
II. EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:
The position requires a high school diploma; excellent clerical, telephone, computer skills, knowledge if ICD-9 and CPT coding, along with a working knowledge of third party payer referral system. Basic understanding of medical terminology.
III. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
____ 1. Obtains all referrals and authorizations and makes appointments for:
a. Doctor to doctor referrals
b. Special testing
c. Outpatient testing including mammograms
d. Dietary Consults
e. Physical Therapy
f. Mental Health
g. Emergency room referrals
_____ 2. Completes all referrals within 48 hours if possible
_____ 3. Keeps referral guide book up-to-date
_____ 4. Attends insurance meetings pertaining to referrals
_____ 5. Contacts insurance companies when necessary
_____ 6. Resolves problem referrals (retroactive, failure to obtain, etc.)
_____ 7. Keeps referral log sheet
_____ 8. Prepares referral notes, X-rays, fax records as needed
_____ 9. Answers patient questions regarding insurance and their appointment
IV. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Maintains competencies for front office duties
2. Rotates Saturdays and holidays
3. Attends mandatory meetings
4. Performs other duties as requested by Supervisor
