Refining Engineer Supervisor

Job Summary:

Martinez Renewables has an opening for an Engineering Supervisor located in Martinez, CA. The Martinez renewable fuels facility is one of the largest plants in the world dedicated to the production of liquid renewable fuels. The large facility produces 730 million gallons per year of renewable fuels to help support California’s low carbon future.

This position will supervise and develop a team of project engineers, electrical and instrument engineers to support operations and maintenance objectives and strategic improvements to the plant. This position will provide engineering support to prepare decision support packages for project approval and construction work packages for implementation of expense and capital projects. These projects will be managed in accordance with the Marathon Project Management Process and the Marathon budget processes. Technical will be prepared in accordance with Marathon and industry technical specifications. This position will report to the Engineering Manager.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead and develop a cohesive team of engineers dedicated to delivering technical solutions for Operations, Maintenance, Construction and Turnaround.Clearly communicate expectations, evaluate individual performance, provide regular feedback about performance through informal and formal discussions and reviews.Foster a culture of collaboration and teamwork within the department.Interface with other departments to support their teams and provide projects and engineering services that meet plant needs.Ensure adherence to Marathon Project Management Process (MPMP) for project development and deliverables.Lead the budget development work for Capital and Expense projects to support the Marathon budget process requirements.Support the engineering team to develop construction work packages for small and medium projects and collaborate with the construction management team.Coordinate with the project controls team to support regular project progress updates and cost forecasts for the team’s projects.Manage engineering contractors to support their on-time delivery of project plans, estimates, vendor packages and construction packages.Oversee the project request process and review submittals to ensure they provide sufficient information and justification to create projects.Assign new projects to project engineers to balance workloads and meet timing schedule requirements for budgets, turnarounds, and compliance deadlines.Strategically distribute assigned projects and tasks between engineers to align with their strengths and development needs and to support the needs of the plant.Allocate resources for non-project work including process hazard analysis, incident investigations, and technical support for Operations or Maintenance.Supports the engineering manager in the selection of engineering contractors and tracks engineering contractor workloads to distribute work.Advocate for process safety management (PSM) principles and enforce compliance with PSM requirements in the development and execution of projects.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Must have a Bachelors degree in Engineering.Must have at least 10 years of Engineering experience in a refinery, petro-chemical or other related heavy industry.Must be proficient in Microsoft: Word, Excel and Outlook.Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery, be able to physically perform all tasks in the field and take hair drug test and physical.Must have a clean and valid driver’s license.Must be able to obtain a TWIC Card.Must be legally authorized to work in the US without the need for future VISA sponsorship.Travel Requirement is 5% or less.The hours of the position are 9/80 schedule, must perform on-call and support TAR as required.
