The Engineering team discovers, develops and evaluates new product ideas, enhancements, or strategic product extensions, and translates research discoveries into usable and marketable products. Leads, plans and tracks all phases of the product life cycle, from inception to introduction into the marketplace. Coordinates with various functions to ensure successful product development and implementation.
This role in summaryAs a lead engineer, you will lead the design and development of efficient and innovative cooling and ice water systems, ensuring optimal performance and reliability. You will involve defining and implementing effective solutions to meet project requirements, as well as guiding the team in technical decisions. Additionally, you will provide mentorship to junior team members, sharing expertise and fostering growth to strengthen the team’s overall capabilities.
Your responsibilities will includeLead the Design and Development: Spearhead the design and innovation of efficient, reliable cooling and ice water systems, ensuring optimal performance aligned with project requirements.
Develop and Update System Roadmap: Establish and maintain a global roadmap for cooling and ice water systems, incorporating regular updates to test specifications and ensuring alignment with industry advancements.
Define System Requirements and Ensure Quality: Develop and manage system-level design requirements, DFMEA, and technical design reviews to maintain high standards in performance, safety, and quality.
Mentor and Guide Team Members: Provide mentorship to junior engineers, guiding them in technical decisions and promoting skill development to strengthen team capabilities.
Collaborate on Cross-Functional Projects: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing and product development, to integrate the cooling and ice water systems seamlessly at both the product and production levels.
Manage Supplier Partnerships: Collaborate with suppliers to enhance their capabilities in delivering high-quality, high-performance cooling and ice water solutions, ensuring alignment with project specifications and goals.
Drive Innovation through Advanced Development: Lead advanced development projects for cooling and ice water system innovations, working alongside universities and research partners to explore cutting-edge solutions.
Validate System Performance: Design and validate system performance using experiential testing and simulation tools to meet reliability and efficiency goals.
Oversee Approvals and Compliance: Secure component and system-level approvals for new concepts from internal product safety and codes teams and, when required, from external regulatory agencies.
Implement Projects Across Manufacturing Sites: Ensure successful project execution and integration by coordinating with counterparts at North American manufacturing sites, driving projects from concept through to full-scale production.
Minimum requirementsBachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and 8 years of experience in the offered position or position in Refrigeration
Or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and 5 years of experience in the offered position or position in Refrigeration.
Preferred skills and experiencesWhirlpool Product Development (WPD) or similar product development & project delivery methodology experience.
Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) knowledge.
MS Office, Google Suite, Excel/Google Sheets Formulas, Charts, Macro/Scripts.
MS Project and/or SmartSheets.
CFD experience
Critical thinking and diagnostic capability in a fast-paced environment.
Proactively take ownership of issues and drive solutions.
Organization, analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
People skills to work in cross-functional teams with a can-do attitude and ability to integrate.
