Refrigeration Mechanic

MAIN FUNCTION: Performs duties associated with the inspection, repair, maintenance, and operation of refrigeration and air conditioning related equipment.

Plans & schedules workload to meet the needs of the facility and departmental assigned tasks. Consistently meets deadlines in special projects and daily responsibilities; requests assistance when necessary to complete duties on time. Assists other employees in the performance of their assigned duties. Follows the general direction of the foreman. Performs duties in an independent manner, requiring little or no need for direct  However, seeks guidance and direction as necessary for appropriate performance of duties. Consistently looks for solutions to problems and takes appropriate action; exhibits resourcefulness when first approach does not work. Looks for alternative to accomplish goal or objective. Continually strives to make the best use of time during assigned shift; does not allow unimportant interruptions to waste time at the expense of assigned duties; consistently demonstrates a cost conscious attitude to time usage and makes the best use of time.

2. Responsible for identifying, completing and documenting preventive maintenance items for equipment as assigned. Maintains work area/room and equipment in good working order.

Performs daily, weekly, monthly and annual preventive maintenance on hospital equipment in accordance with manufactures specification. Performs routine inspections of all HVAC units, cooling power and water units. Always documents maintenance performed in appropriate record/log book. Daily logs and records temperature and humidity. Performs maintenance and repair services on refrigeration and air conditioning systems throughout the Hospital using hand and power tools and test equipment to accomplish the necessary corrective and preventative maintenance. Always inspects equipment room and cleans up area as directed by foreman. Maintains shop equipment and tools on a regular basis to reduce replacement cost.

3. Responsible for installation and repair of new and existing equipment as assigned.

Identifies item for replacement within assigned duties and or work orders and fills out the appropriate material request form for approval. Follows through with the installation or repair of equipment in a timely manner. Makes repairs in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications and all codes. Completes repairs with 100% accuracy.

4. Performs duties and responsibilities within the general requirements of the Engineering Department.

Provides uninterrupted supply of air conditioning and refrigeration to the Hospital. Makes necessary adjustments to maintain adequate conditions for patient safety and comfort. Assists in layouts for new renovation installations. Always carries appropriate tools for the job. Always responds to emergency call-ins within an acceptable period of time. Always maintains a clean work area. Ensures that all machinery and tools are returned to their proper place at end of shift. Assists as requests on construction projects for any Griffin Hospital properties. Willingly performs other work as related to job description as requested or by virtue of past practice.

EDUCATION: High school education, State license for refrigeration work.

EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years refrigeration and/or air conditioning maintenance and installation experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS: Works in strained positions, stoops, and climbs ladders.  Occasionally lifts heavy equipment.  Cold, wet, some dust. Refer to attached chart.
