I. SCOPE OF ROLE:

Historically, there was a NYS Department of Health Grant that enabled S:US to establish the “Transition
to Independence Program,” holistic, multi-disciplinary teams designed to: 1) successfully transition
adults in Brooklyn with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) and challenging behaviors
living in institutional settings back to the community and, 2) keep individuals at high risk for future
reliance upon institutional levels of care in the community with appropriate supports.

that is designed to mobilize self-determination and independence. Thus, increasing a level of self-
awareness and self-understanding to successfully problem solve and meet challenges by learning to
utilize their own resources. By doing so, we aim to achieve our mission to empower persons supported
to facilitate self-determination and independence.

 

We are seeking self-motivated paraprofessionals who enjoy working in a team setting to join our
Developmentally Disabilities Division as Registered Behavior Technicians (RBT). The role of the RBT is to
assist the Behavior Intervention Specialist (BIS) in training other members of the multidisciplinary team
on how to implement the behavior support plans for the people supported. Data collection is also
considered a significant component of this role as the RBT will be responsible for data collection that will
be used to assist persons supported with increasing communication and appropriate leisure skills. The
goal is to decrease incidents of challenging behaviors and increase replacement skills. The RBT is
considered an integral member of the team.

 

 

II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Training and Observations:
• Collects data and conduct certain types of assessments
• Ensures behavioral data is being collected and documented on the agency’s electronic health
platforms, i.e. PrecisionCare and Power BI
• Reviews data and make appropriate changes to behavior support plans based on data analysis
• Trains program directors, shift supervisors and direct support professionals with persons
supported behavior support plan procedures and data collection.

 

Assessments:

• Assists with conducting functional behavior analysis assessments
• Conducts certain types of assessments with people supported

 

 

Planning:
• Coordinates with program directors and shift supervisors
• Consults with team members about persons supported programs and services
• Attends/coordinates meetings regarding the persons supported

 

Mentoring:
• Assumes the role of direct care staff for targeted shifts to facilitate generalization of staff
trainings
• Directs implementation of skills acquisition and behavior support plans developed by the BIS,
interventions may at times require implementation of SCIP-R techniques.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

 

Possess a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent
Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

 

Will complete an in-house 40-hour training program; RBT certification a plus
SCIP-R and CPR Training preferable, will train
