The Hamilton Regional Laboratory Medicine program (HRLMP) is a collaborative program funded and operated jointly by the Hamilton Health Sciences and St. Joseph's Healthcare. The program is committed to change and innovation, through education, service and research, to bring the highest quality science into health care for the benefit of the community, and to participate in the clinical application and interpretation of the science.
The position reports to the Special Hematology Manager or designate. The Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) is responsible for performing Hematology tests and procedures in accordance with the HRLMP policies and procedures. This testing includes but is not exclusive to: Hematology morphology, bedside BM preparation, special stains, and cell markers utilizing flow cytometry technology. The MLT is expected to operate and maintain laboratory equipment, perform quality control and assurance procedures, participate in the implementation of new methodology and evaluations and demonstrate a commitment to continuing education. In addition, the MLT will display courtesy and tact with peers, patients, the public and other hospital staff. Must be prepared to contribute when required with additional tasks such as teaching, method evaluation, technical writing, quality assurance projects, safety etc.

1. Current Registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO)
2. Successful completion of an accredited MLT program
3. Demonstrated experience and knowledge in Hematology morphology
4. Flow cytometry/special stain experience and knowledge of bedside marrow preparation technique
5. Computer skills in Order Entry, Data Entry and Reporting
6. Excellent communication, organizational and problem- solving skills
7. Demonstrated commitment to maintaining and improving individual competence, as well as contributing to the education and development of students and co-workers
