Regional Control Valve Service Engineer

Role Summary: The Regional Control Valve Service Engineer provides engineering and technical assistance for control valve products to roles who directly engage with customers (Level 1) – including Sales engineers, Application Engineers (AE), Commercial Operations, QRC personnel, and customers directly. The Regional Control Valve Service Engineer provides expert product engineering knowledge and troubleshooting expertise to diagnose issues in the field, and develop the best possible solutions – including replacement, repair and/or upgraded designs within the scope of the service center (QRC) capability. In addition to Flowserve product, support is given for problems with competitor products.

He/She performs root cause analysis and creates RCA reports. Networks within the global Services & Solutions engineering team and Flowserve factory product engineering teams as needed to generate product solutions for customer and QRC needs.

The Regional Control Valve Service Engineer assists commercial operations prepare technical proposals with technical interpretation of specifications, procedures, policies, quality, and equipment reliability. Supports engineering needs at regional Flowserve QRC service centers, including engineering dispositions (MRB), troubleshooting, creating inspection and repair procedures, and providing product or process training.

Work location will be in Utah (Springville) or Texas (Houston, Pasadena area). There is up to 20% of travel required, to visit other QRC or customer locations.


Responsibilities:

Provide engineering support for technical escalations when expert product design knowledge is required.

Help application engineering diagnose and troubleshoot complex customer issues. Help commercial operations prepare technical proposals for product designs, modifications, changes and/or upgrades.Knowledge and ability to recommend/specify appropriate materials of construction in urgent situations to get customer operational.Ability, confidence, credibility and accessibility to answer individual and conference calls to provide guidance for same day demand.Provide product and process training within the MRO organization.Act as engineering support for Project management during order fulfilment phase.Support QRC in customer turn-around (TAR) planning & execution, including support TAR walk-downs when needed.Supports the QRC concerning engineering issues, including but not limited to NCR dispositions, supporting machinists and mechanics during assembly, inspection procedures, complex testing, supplier issues, etc.Accountable for documenting and communicating design changes initiated by the QRC per the applicable procedures and systems.Utilizes key engineering tools and organization systems to complete design tasks (ESP, SolidWorks, Windchill, Ansys, ERP system, etc.)Own creation and release of detailed design drawings, working with GTEC resources to complete. Provide approved preliminary drawings as needed to facilitate immediate action.Implements engineering best practices and Flowserve standards such as weld procedures, bolt torque, materials, hydro test, etc.Produce detailed root cause analysis reports. Work with factory teams or Level 3 engineering as needed for complex issues.Design replacement and/or upgraded designs ad hoc for customer specific solutions to be implemented by the service center.Train other service engineers on cognizant products.Identify upgrade opportunities and support commercial operations in the generation of technical proposals for such upgrades.Network within global services and solutions engineering and with factory product engineering teams as needed for complete resolution and the highest possible level of support.Support technical and commercial justification analysis.Support sales in presenting Flowserve technical capabilities to CustomersProvide feedback on product field performance to product management and engineering leadership.Support 3rd party reverse engineering and regional/global automation efforts.

Requirements:

Mechanical Engineering degree or in related field, and 8-10 years of related experience within manufacturing environment.              Specific Product Engineering experience on control valve product lines is required.Manufacturing & technical support experience of the product in the QRC’s, including machine shop support, assembly, automation, actuations, and performance testing.  A keen ability to connect with shop personal to help in execution of repair or new valves.Technical competence on the basic design principles that govern the product in service. (Code requirements, wall thickness, design standards, including B16.34, ASME BPVC, ASTM/ANSI, etc.)2-Dimensional and/or 3 D Computer-Aided Design experienceEngineering documentation, drafting, geometric dimensioning and tolerancingEffective oral and written communications skills       Collaborative interpersonal skills     Project management experience, methods and applicationsAccountability and execution for completing work timely and to specificationsExperience with PLM, ERP, and other planning and engineering systems.


Preferred Experience / Skills:

Knowledge of software used at facility including Microsoft Office products, SolidWorks, Simulation, Star-CCM+, Oracle, etc. 

Proven track record of leading and driving cost reductions in a manufacturing environment utilizing Continuous Improvement Methodologies.

Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced geometry, trigonometry, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory.

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Experience interpreting a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and dealing with several abstract and concrete variables.
