Regional Director, Medical Diagnostics – Lung Cancer (West Coast)

The Regional Director, Medical Diagnostics (RDMD), is a field-based professional responsible for liaising with external diagnostics stakeholders in their US territory who has a history of a diagnostic industry or clinical pathology experience in oncology in the West Coast.

The (RDMD), is also responsible for developing and executing external engagement strategies with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), Key Decision Makers (KDMs), Healthcare Professionals (HCPs), and key Regional and National Pathology societies consistent with Medical Affairs teams objectives. 

 

The ideal candidate should have: 

- MD/DO with Board Certification in Anatomic Pathology (US Board strongly preferred) 

- Experience working in US pathology laboratory (academic, community, or commercial) 

- Fellowship in Molecular Pathology in addition to AP Certification is a plus.  

- Significant experience in oncologic pathology; demonstrated expertise in lung cancer is a plus. 

- A passion for proactively engaging internal and external leaders 

- Experience in serving as a medical expert for their diagnostic and biomarker area 

- Strong commercial aptitude and/or experience in product launch 

- Ability to translate and appropriately align commercial and scientific goals and objectives 

 

Accountabilities

- Evaluate and contribute expertise to the U.S. diagnostic strategy development for current and future AstraZeneca oncology products 

- Collaborate with relevant business partners for the development, alignment, and execution of the Medical Diagnostic strategy within the integrated Medical Affairs plan, launch plans, and budgets 

- Identify and lead solution-based strategies to address biomarker adoption barriers, gaps, and hurdles 

- Provide diagnostic leadership on the design and execution of health economic and outcomes research studies and surveys in close collaboration with the Outcomes Research team 

- Recommend and deliver diagnostics-focused educational content targeted to HCPs ,primarily to oncologists and pathologists 

- Develop external engagement strategy and own relationships with key leaders in the diagnostic and biomarker area (including clinical experts and specialized pathologists) 

- Generate pathology-related insights to shape U.S. Medical Diagnostic strategies 

 

Qualifications 

- MD or DO required with board certification in AP.   

- Minimum 3 years histopathology and/or medical affairs experience 

- Relevant work experience in industry, clinical, or research institution with emphasis in pathology or tissue diagnostics 

- Deep understanding of diagnostic FDA environment, clinical laboratory practices including CAP/CLIA lab requirements and test implementation 

- Strong knowledge of medical strategy, clinical diagnostic development, and Field Medical activities 

- Strong business acumen, including an understanding of drivers behind evolving diagnostic and pathology landscape 

- Ability to interact productively with both commercial and scientific / medical colleagues 

- Experience in developing and maintaining new relationships with External Experts 

- Ability to travel up to 60% of time 

Preferred Qualifications 

- Existing relationships with relevant Professional Societies and Scientific Medical Experts 

- Experience in a strategy-setting role within Medical Affairs 

- Demonstrated leadership abilities within a matrixed organization 

- Completed fellowship in molecular pathology 

-  Knowledge/expertise in lung cancer.  

The annual base pay for this position ranges from $171,524.00 - $257,286.00 . Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
