Regional Practice Area Leader - Government

Gensler’s Government Practice Area is looking to fill a Regional leadership position in the Northwest region with an entrepreneurial, future ready individual who possess innovative thought leadership, outstanding client relationships, successful project leadership, and persuasive communication skills to lead the future growth of the government practice in the region.

Regional Practice Area Leaders at Gensler have a client following and deep expertise of the design and delivery of best-in-class architecture and interiors. Our San Francisco Bay Area Leadership team is seeking a Practice Area Leader to continue building our expertise with federal, state, county and local governmental entities, as well as strengthen our architectural expertise and client relationship base. Whether a city hall, county administration building, courthouse or community service center, Gensler ranks amongst the nation's largest government sector architecture, engineering, and construction firms

Your Role
 

Working in collaboration with the San Francisco Office leadership and Global/Regional Leaders in this practice area, you will seek to grow and leverage the capabilities of the San Francisco Bay Area and other regional teams to lead Government projects and build this practice in the NW Region. Gensler is an entrepreneurial, collaborative, non-centralized and non-hierarchical organization. The road map for success will require you to build on the collective excellence of the leaders alongside of you to set and achieve common goals. Your success will be based in the knowledge and patience to provide guidance to a variety of team members, advising and supporting where necessary.


What You Will Do

Design and deliver world class Government Facilities

Be in the market, actively engaged with current and potential clients and industry partners

Develop a regional practice area strategy with a focus on growth

Be active in thought leadership, writing, speaking, and leading or participating in research

Manage client expectations, team communication, project organization and consultant coordination

Build relationships and collaborate with our colleagues across the region to advance client interests and practice area objectives

Prepare project proposals, negotiate contracts and fees, participate in interviews and introductory meetings

Mentor, support, and direct staff to help them achieve not only client goals but personal development goals

Foster strategic client development with federal, state, counties and local governmental entities

Work in collaboration with other Gensler leaders in this Practice Area to leverage the capabilities of the Firm and help build the practice

Partner with regional leadership to develop a standard of practice that addresses the unique requirements of this market sector

Develop client and practice strategies, market positioning and leadership within a design practice focused on Government al projects

Focus on talent development and acquisition.

Your Qualifications

Master’s degree or higher in Architecture or Interior Design

15+ years’ architectural experience, inclusive of 5 or more years’ experience in client development, and/or management of a studio, practice group, or regional team

Experience developing relationships with new and existing clients that will enhance the firm’s competitive advantage and positioning with federal, state, county, civic centers and local governmental entities,

Experience in conceptual planning, development, and direction of architectural projects within the market sector

Proven track record of success in working in a senior management role with a minimum of three (3) large clients, including participation in development of client relationships that led to new business

Proven leadership and management skills, including the ability to develop collaborative relationships that lead to successful results, within the firm and externally – with clients, consultants, and other key participants in the design and development process

Strong presentation skills with the ability to be articulate and convincing in interviews and other presentations

A commitment to the principles of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, and sustainable design, and experience integrating them on specific projects

Preferred certifications include: NCIDQ or licensed architect, LEED

Visibility in the field, including industry memberships, publications, and conference speaking experience

Versatile, self-motivated

High degree of flexibility, ability to work on multiple projects at once

Outstanding analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills and be an enthusiastic team player

*The base salary will be estimated between $130,000 - 190,000 plus bonuses and benefits and contingent on relevant experience.
