POSITION SUMMARY
The dietitian is a member of the interdisciplinary team working in the outpatient diabetes education program. The dietitian utilizes the care process consistent with their license or certification including initiation of interventions within individual scope of practice. The dietitian is responsible to oversee any necessary coordination of the interdisciplinary plan of care and provides for its consistency with the medical treatment plan. The dietitian incorporates diabetes education principles that are current and reflective of the standards set forth by the American Diabetes Association, The American Association of Diabetes Educators and The American College of Endocrinologists in respect to the management of type 1, type 2 and gestational diabetes.
Licensed and registered care providers are responsible for utilizing the care process relative to their scope of practice and knowledge base; document the assessment, plan, intervention(s) and evaluation. All patient care activities are administered according to standards, procedural guidelines and organizational policy.
By participating in educational activities, the Dietitian assumes responsibility for continued professional and personal growth.
This position participates in short and long term planning for physician services and supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participates in performance improvement efforts and demonstrates a commitment to teamwork and cooperation.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in related discipline and graduate of an accredited program for Registered Dietitians, Master's degree preferred. Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) required or CDCES eligible.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Registered by the American Dietetic Association.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience caring for people with diabetes in an out-patient setting.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Position requires considerable walking and standing. May require some occasional evening and weekend work.
