JOB SUMMARY: This position provides support for the entire Preventative Health / Population Health Program and requires a passionate commitment of core values and behaviors. The registered dietitian educator is responsible for developing / teaching educational classes related to diabetic dieting as well as providing community health education and patient instruction including prevention and wellness initiatives to address clinic needs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Plans yearly schedule of classes and participates in marketing campaign including making presentations, speaking at provider and staff meetings. Develops weight management classes and related materials. Assesses lifestyle, eating habits of individual patients. Determines appropriate diet / dietary restrictions. Teaches classes, individualizing as appropriate. Follows up with patients with phone calls, including problem-solving and positive reinforcement. Documents patient progress for medical records. Collects / analyzes statistics on program attendance, patient results and recommends changes. Prepares and maintains current patient instructional and health education materials. Maintains appropriate patient education records and documentation of screening and instructional activities. Designs and implements in-service educational programs according to the latest trends. Provides updated educational material to patients. Serves as the heath information resource contact for patient and community inquiries. Organizes and conducts educational outreach programs enhancing community awareness of the clinic. Designs / implements marketing campaigns. Documents patient involvement in health education in medical records.KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of nutrition principles and application to weight management. Knowledge of how to plan curriculum and use adult learning instructional techniques. Knowledge of lifestyle assessments and dietary considerations.SKILLS:
Skill in accurately assessing patient weight and lifestyle factors and appropriately determining calorie level and diet. Skill in developing / delivering classes in enthusiastic, motivational manner. Skill in participating effectively as member of interdisciplinary team, interacting appropriately with physicians, nurses, other health educators. Skill in establishing / maintaining working relationships with patients, co-workers and the public. Skill in developing health education programs and instructing patients in wellness techniques.ABILITIES:
Ability to communicate and work effectively with variety of patients, families, staff, publics. Is able to speak persuasively in front of groups with professional manner / image. Ability to use office and media equipment to develop / deliver programs. Ability to help patients problem-solve about making appropriate lifestyle changes.
