Registered Nurse
The client's Safe Haven Shelter and Transitional Foster Care Program is a 24-hour program that serves unaccompanied children (UCs) in immigration custody who are awaiting release to their sponsors. The Nurse is responsible for the oversight, coordination and provision of medical and mental health care of the children in the program including screening for infectious diseases, managing prescription medication, and triaging medical complaints and responding to medical emergencies. Major duties and responsibilities include:



-Maintain accurate and current information on children taking prescription medication, ensuring that medication dosages are properly separated.

-Track children with EpiPens and inhalers and provide training to staff and foster parents on proper utilization of those medical devices.

-Supervise procedures for students taking medication during school hours.

-Provide individual supervision to medical coordinators.

-Maintain contact with prescribing doctors and with foster parents and staff to ensure correct prescriptions are followed, including regular review of medication logs.

-Review and maintain accurate and current health records in accordance with local governmental regulations and funder requirements.

-Promote and assist in the control of communicable diseases through prevention, early detection, surveillance and reporting of contagious diseases to the appropriate local health authority, including review of medical incident reports.

-Assist in the formulation of health policies, goals, and objectives for Safe Haven.

-Assist in the development of emergency response plans including training on safety procedures, in particular compliance with OSHA Blood Borne Pathogen Standard.

-In coordination with Medical Coordinators and Shift Leaders, ensure that protective personal equipment and first aid equipment is available in all classrooms and work areas.

-Document all health visits or consultations in the UC Portal and in physical charts as required by funders and state licensing.

-Liaise with DCS Medical on health issues as necessary, creating discharge medical plans for complex medical concerns.

-Liaise with external providers to ensure timely specialist follow-up.

-Provide health education assistance and training as needed.

-Teach parenting skills as they relate to child development and health needs of children as needed.

-Assist with first aid procedures for medical emergencies.

-Supervises any assigned interns and Medical Coordinators.

-Other duties as assigned.
