Job Details:

The Registered Nurse is responsible for supporting and promoting breast feeding for the mother and baby dyad and for facilitating lactation services support and education for breast feeding mothers and their infants as well as education and support for maternity staff working with the post-partum mother-baby dyad.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care of the mother and baby breastfeeding dyad.Provides breastfeeding education, support, and counseling to both inpatient and outpatient nursing mother-baby couplets requiring or seeking breastfeeding assistance.Provides daily bedside lactation rounds.Teaches prenatal breastfeeding classes.Facilitates monthly breastfeeding support group.Maintains relevant breastfeeding educational materials for patients and staff and annually review breastfeeding policy.Conducts daily follow-up phone calls to discharged patients experiencing breastfeeding issues.Facilitates annual staff breastfeeding education and competencies.Collects & reports breastfeeding data required by New York State DOH.Maintains Joint Commission core measures for breastfeeding in policy and practice.Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:

Experience: Previous professional nursing experience preferred. Three years of Lactation Consultant experience preferred. 

Education: Graduation from an accredited school of Nursing required; a bachelor’s degree or master's degree in nursing preferred.

Licenses/Certifications: Current NYS nursing license required. Current IBCLC, BLS, & NRP Certification required.
