JOB SUMMARY
The Registered Nurse-Acute functions as a vital member of the healthcare team by demonstrating a customer/patient focus, effective communication, professionalism self-development, and teamwork. The individual utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate comprehensive care provided to selected patient populations and their families. The Registered Nurse-Acute is expected to demonstrate excellent clinical, problem-solving, interpersonal and leadership skills and make decisions consistent with hospital policies, department protocols/guidelines, and the Wisconsin Nurse Practice Act.
WORK SHIFTS
Variable 8 hour PM shifts including every third weekend and every other holiday.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.
Minimum Required: Diploma or degree in nursing.
Preferred/Optional: Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum Required: None
Preferred/Optional: Two years hospital nursing experience
Those inpatient facilities participating in the Clinical Nurse Advancement Portfolio (CNAP) clinical ladder, refer to program documents for eligibility to advance/maintain CNAP level.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES

DEPARTMENT/UNIT DESCRIPTION
The 13-bed Rehabilitation Center provides professional nursing and rehabilitation care to patients with physical and cognitive deficits as a result of disease process or injury.
Services Provided/Patient Conditions:
These include, but are not limited to: stroke, spinal cord injury, brain injury (traumatic/non-traumatic), multiple trauma, amputation, post-arthroplasty, neurological conditions and other neurological, orthopedic and medical conditions resulting in functional deficits impairing independence.
Staffing Mix:
Staffing is provided 24 hours per day by nursing personnel (RN's, CNA's, HUC's). Therapy services are provided Monday through Saturday, with limited availability on Sunday. Therapy services include physical, occupational, recreational, and speech therapy. The interdisciplinary staff of the Rehabilitation Center is devoted to providing rehabilitative care and education to patients and their support systems.
Patient Population:
The patient population is <1% adolescent (13-19), 4% early adult (20-29), 5% young adult (30-44), 33% middle adult (45-65), and 58% (>65) geriatric adult. Cultural needs are assessed and considered for Native American, African American, Hmong, Amish/Mennonite, and Hispanic patients which account for less than 2% of the total patient population.
