Summary of Duties and Responsibilities: The registered nurse supervises the health care needs of clients living in a residential living facility. These clients have been diagnosed with a serious and persistent mental illness and often have other health issues (co-morbidities) that impact their health. The residential nurse supervises the day-to-day care of these clients. The residential nurse also supervises the residential specialists in their direct care role. The residential nurse maintains health records, oversees medications for clients, performs intake assessments as well as routine health screenings, and addresses emergent issues that may arise. The residential nurse also ensures that Level 1 Medication Technicians pass medications in accordance with laws and policy and that client health needs are addressed promptly. Lastly, the residential nurse provides company required screenings and testing to employees as required. Essential Responsibilities: * Ensure safe and appropriate care of client health needs within the framework of the residential program of Hopewell Center. * Supervise staff in the role of administering medications. * Routine assessment of client health status. * Management of emergent issues in a safe and timely manner. * Maintain health records across multiple platforms from multiple sources. * Ensure compliance with Standards-Of-Care as directed by Federal, State, and Local Law and Hopewell Center Policy. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: * Oversee day-to-day healthcare of clients with serious and persistent mental illness as well as other health issues (co-morbidities). * Perform intake screenings for all new clients within 24 hours of admission and document findings. * Order medications for new clients and prepares MARs and POS for Level 1 med techs. * Coordinate client needs within a multi-disciplinary team that includes physicians (PCP (Primary Care Physician), psychiatrist, and specialists), therapists, Social Services teams, rehabilitations specialists, ancillary support staff, and any other sources of care as needed. * Ensure that medications are stored and managed according to federal and state regulations (includes tracking, medication counts, and disposal of medications). * Administer client medications, including injections, and monitor client adherence to prescribed medication and any adverse effects from medications. * Supervise Level 1 medication technicians in the administration of medications and review medication administration records regularly to ensure compliance with physician orders. Perform initial and quarterly observance of employee med pass. * Review shift logs daily and address issues presented in accordance with policy, standard-of-care, and applicable laws. * Track patient appointments daily and ensure that necessary forms are available to clients to accompany them to their appointment. * Review documentation received following appointments and update client records (EHR, paper chart, MAR, POS) and inform residential staff of any pertinent changes. * Ensure clients have, on file, an annual assessment by a PCP that includes health assessment, labs as directed, testing as directed, and follow-up ordered by the provider. * Perform and record AIMS (ABNORMAL INVOLUNTARY MOVEMENT SCALE) testing on clients receiving antipsychotic medication every six (6) months as well as periodic checks or as ordered by a provider. Reports positive test results to providers in a timely manner. * Any other duties and responsibilities as assigned to ensure safe patient care and compliance with policy and law. Minimum Education, Training, and Experience: Qualified candidates will possess education commensurate with Missouri Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse requirements. People's Health Centers will train employees as required by law and statute. Experience in a Mental Health setting is strongly preferred. Experience in supervision of staff in a residential setting is strongly preferred. Licensure or Certification: Licensure in Missouri as a Registered Nurse or a Licensed Practical Nurse is required. Minimum Qualifications: The position requires an employee who can work independently, is reliable, and has strong organizational and interpersonal skills. The position has responsibilities at multiple sites and requires the worker to drive between sites.
