The CardioVascular Institutes Operating Rooms focus exclusively on caring for patients undergoing highly complex cardiac, vascular/ endovascular and thoracic surgery procedures. Located on the BIDMC West Campus, the program spans two cutting-edge facilities.
Cardiac surgery, including heart transplantation and thoracic robotic surgery is performed in the Klarman Building, which opened in 2023. The building is designed to accommodate the latest diagnostic, hybrid, and surgical procedures, with patient care spaces developed in collaboration with front-line staff. Vascular/Endovascular surgery takes place in the Rosenberg Building, featuring an open vascular room, 3 state-of-the-art endovascular suites and an interventional pulmonology program. For some complex aortic aneurysm repair procedures the OR uses a real-time 3D visualization system for enhanced guidance, which reduces radiation exposure for both patients and staff. This technology supports a robust endovascular aneurysm repair program, including TEVAR, EVAR, and PMEG.
Our commitment to exceptional patient care has positioned BIDMC as a leader in healthcare quality, safety, and transparency. Our team consistently receives top scores from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons for isolated coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery, isolated aortic valve replacement (AVR), and combined AVR and CABG surgeries. Additionally, we are recognized as a Carotid Care Quality Champion Center by the Society for Vascular Surgery Vascular Quality Initiative. Our nurses are highly regarded for the superb care and compassion they provide every patient.
