Registered Nurse - Emergency Department

ELIGIBLE FOR CMH EMPLOYEE REFERRAL BONUS: PRIORITY RECRUITMENT The Emergency Department Staff Nurse is directly responsible and accountable for the care given to their Emergency assigned patients. This includes assessment of patient needs, including life threatening emergencies, development of a flexible nursing plan of care, administration and evaluation of nursing care and supervision of others in the delivery of nursing care. Job Requirements Knowledge of /Skill/Ability to: A thorough knowledge of nursing principles and procedure; knowledge and skills in techniques of patient care. Must be able to read and write English as well as speak and understand English. Must be willing to flex up for short term needs such as vacations or illness. The person must be dependable regarding attendance and self-motivated. Unplanned work absence must be held to a minimum. License/Certification: RN currently licensed with the Oregon State Board of Nursing. BLS required upon hire through the American Heart Association. ACLS, PALS/ENPC required. New Graduates or employees who are new to this unit will have six months to complete ACLS, PALS/ENPC. TNCC required within a year of hire to this unit. CEN preferred. Education and/or Experience: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. Previous satisfactory acute care hospital experience of one year preferred. Previous satisfactory Emergency Department Care experience relevant to the patient population of this unit or completion of an approved Emergency Department course. For RNs graduating within the last 12 months, or RNs that have not practiced in an acute care facility within the last 24 months, and have not previously completed a residency program will be required to complete the CMH-provided Nurse Residency program. Physical Demands and Work Environment Conditions / ADA Compliance Works inside. Walking and standing much of the time while on duty. Ability to lift and transfer patients is required, usually with the assistance of co-workers. Normal or corrected vision is required. Normal or corrected hearing is necessary to distinguish differences in heartbeats, breathing and monitor alarms. Manual dexterity is required to operate equipment. Subject to physical and emotional stress of work environment. Occasional exposure to infectious diseases. Pushes/pulls loaded adult stretchers, beds, wheelchairs, crash carts and equipment carts. Transfers patients to/from cars, stretchers, beds, chairs and ambulates as necessary. Tolerates bending, sitting, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling for 8 – 12 hours (shift dependent). Lifts or carries up to 50 lbs.
