Responsibilities Under the direct supervision of the Operating Room Surgeon, the Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) position functions within the identified scope of practice as defined by the New York State Nurse Practice Act and as first assistant in all surgical specialties. The RNFA provides aide in exposure, hemostasis, closure, and other intraoperative technical functions that assist the surgeon with performing safe operations to allow optimal results for the patients. In addition to intraoperative duties, the RNFA performs the circulating or scrub role as assigned when not functioning in the role of first assistant. This position includes on call coverage including weeknight, weekend and holiday rotation. On call responsibilities include First Assist coverage of obstetric patients undergoing cesarean sections in the Labor & Delivery ORs. The compensation range for the role is $52.82 - $58.72 hourly Garnet Health System provides a compensation range to comply with the New York State law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits. When determining a team member’s compensation and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget and internal equity). Qualifications POSITION QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing required; BSN required, or attained within four (4) years of hire; Current Registered Professional Nurse licensure in New York State required Three (3) years’ experience work as an Operating Room RN required; Completion of an accredited RN First Assistant course that meets the AORN Recommended Education Standards for RNFA programs and is accepted by the Certification Board Perioperative Nursing required Certification in perioperative nursing practice (CNOR) required. Successful completion and maintenance of RNFA certification (CRNFA) by National Assistant at Surgery Certification (NASC) within two (2) years of hire (within five (5) years, if currently pursuing BSN); Current BLS, ACLS and PALS certification required. Physical Requirements: Stands, walks, sits intermittently throughout the day. Lifts, pushes, pulls light to heavy weights as required. Working Conditions: Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances. Subject to varying and unpredictable situations. Exposure to blood and other potentially infectious material.
