Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to join our Gastroenterology office in Florham Park. This role involves 90% administrative duties and 10% hands-on patient care. As a vital member of our team, you will manage phone triage, update medication and orders, schedule procedures, and ensure efficient patient flow.
ResponsibilitiesManage phone triage with approximately 180 calls per dayUpdate medication and ordersSchedule procedures and update patient filesCheck daily schedule for patient volumeOrganize medications for doctors to administerUpdate Electronic Medical Records (EMR) using AthenaResearch and update prescription refills before submitting to the doctorReview patient cases and questionsEmploy appropriate and timely use of Tasking in the Electronic Health Record (EHR)Maintain efficient patient flowFunction as the liaison between patients, staff, and physiciansEnsure all patients are correctly identified prior to providing and/or documenting carePrepare pertinent information needed for patient visitsProvide referrals and/or consult orders appropriately and in a timely manner in the Practice Management System (PMS) and EHRCheck and maintain logs for emergency equipment according to policyCollect lab specimens according to departmental guidelines and accurately label specimensObtain and document vital signs (BP, temp, pulse, height & weight) accurately and completely in EHRDemonstrate telephone triage protocols and document in EHRSchedule appointments appropriately and accurately according to department guidelinesReview and update medication list in EHR, demonstrating understanding of prescription control and refill proceduresAccurately document known allergies in EHREnter orders and schedule appointments in PMS and EHREssential SkillsExperience in patient careProficiency in EMR (Athena or Epic preferred)Associate's degree required; Bachelor's degree preferredNJ State Nursing LicenseActive BLS certificationExperience in outpatient, primary care, or hospital settingsTriage experienceAdditional Skills & QualificationsMatureProblem solverEffective time managementConfidentAdaptableWork Environment
The work environment is primarily administrative (90%) with some hands-on clinical work (10%). Duties include triage, updating buckets and EMR, checking in patients, and clinical revisit work. The assignment is contract-to-permanent after 6 months, with shifts from Monday to Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm, and no weekends. You will work with a supportive staff consisting of 6 providers, 3 PAs, 3 RNs, 4 MAs, 4 Surgical Schedulers, and 3 PSRs. Physical requirements include pushing, pulling, lifting heavy objects, mobility, dexterity, balance, and endurance for prolonged periods of standing, bending, and typing.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $53.00
