Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse for our Gastroenterology Office in Florham Park. This role involves 90% administrative tasks and 10% hands-on duties. You will handle phone triage, update patient files, schedule procedures, and manage medication orders. Join a supportive team and build long-term relationships with patients.
ResponsibilitiesHandle phone triage for approximately 180 calls a day.Update medication and orders.Schedule procedures and organize medications for doctors.Update Electronic Medical Records (EMR) using Athena.Research and update prescription refills before submitting to the doctor.Review patient cases and questions.Employ appropriate and timely use of tasking in EHR.Maintain efficient patient flow.Function as the liaison between patients, staff, and physicians.Ensure proper patient identification prior to providing and documenting care.Prepare pertinent information needed for patient visits.Provide referrals and consult orders in a timely manner in PMS and EHR.Check and maintain logs for emergency equipment according to policy.Collect and accurately label lab specimens.Obtain and document vital signs accurately in EHR.Demonstrate and document telephone triage protocols in EHR.Schedule appointments accurately according to department guidelines.Review and update medication lists in EHR, understand prescription control, and refill procedures.Enter orders and schedule appointments in the Practice Management System (PMS) and EHR.Essential SkillsExperience in patient care and EMR systems (Athena or Epic preferred).Associate's degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred.NJ State Nursing License.Active BLS certification.Experience in outpatient, primary care, and hospital facilities.Proficiency in triage.Additional Skills & QualificationsMaturity and problem-solving abilities.Effective time management skills.Confidence and adaptability.Work Environment
The work environment is predominantly administrative with 10% hands-on tasks. Duties include triage, updating EMR, checking in patients, and quick revisit clinical work. The position is contract-to-permanent after 6 months, with a shift schedule from Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, and no weekend work. You will be part of a team consisting of 6 providers, 3 PAs, 3 RNs, 4 MAs, 4 Surgical Schedulers, and 3 PSRs. Physical requirements include pushing, pulling, lifting, mobility, agility, dexterity, balance, and endurance.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $53.00/hr.
