This position functions within the Front Street integrated care model to assist patients and medical staff within the ambulatory care setting by providing a variety of nursing services to all ages of patients.

This position works within an integrated care team which consisting of RN’s, Clinical Assistants, Behavioral Health Clinicians, Primary Care providers, and various social support providers. This position serves a population of patients experiencing chronic and acute medical and behavioral health problems, substance abuse, and homelessness. The RN is responsible to perform full assessments, prioritize patient needs and patient flow, and perform skills and coordinate care as ordered by providers. In addition, the RN is expected to use critical thinking to work within standing orders to expedite care patient services. As necessary, the RN may work in other nursing roles, so that departmental functions are covered daily. Performs duties in a responsible, respectful, and caring manner to promote effective relationships.***********************************************************

Key Essential Functions and Accountabilities of the Job

Performs initial assessments of patients who present for appointments or urgent care services.  RN also provides telephone services including an assessment and advice of self-care and/or appropriate care options.  Assessment will include POV, history of present illness, vital sign measurements as appropriate, gathering of GPRA data, immunization status, preventative health needs and other tasks based on POV and anticipation of patient and/or provider needs. 

RN may take direction from provider through written, verbal and/or standing order.  Administers therapeutic measures, including medication (oral, topical, IM, SQ, intradermal, and IV push and infusion), operation and monitoring of specialized equipment, as indicated by patient needs.

Documents assessment, observation, nursing interventions, therapeutic measures, health counseling and education provided to patients either in person or by phone.  Evaluates and documents patient’s comprehension of education.

Maintains a clean and safe working environment, including adequate supplies. Upkeep of unit and equipment. Reporting/removal of any defective or missing equipment and safety hazards.  Adheres to infection control policy and procedures.

Maintains annual competencies including safety and infection control requirements. 

Performs other duties as assigned, including special projects deemed necessary to provide comprehensive health services.

Education, Certifications, and Licenses Required

Current full, unrestricted Registered Nursing license in Alaska or other U.S. state required. Direct Hire must have applied for an Alaska nursing license before start date. Agency staff must have an active Alaska license.

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred.

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience Required

1 year general nursing experience preferred.

Knowledge of

Knowledge of the nursing process and the ability to apply critical thinking in the working environment.

Knowledge and demonstrated use of customer service principles.

Knowledge and demonstrated use of safety and infection control principles.

Skills in

Critical thinking skills including complete assessment, prioritization/anticipation of needs, and data collection.

Technical skills including use of equipment such as computers and medical equipment.

Application of effective oral and written communications skills.

Ability to

Required Certifications:

Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association, Registered Nurse License - State of Alaska - Alaska State Board of Nursing
